Obituary of Lucy Scialdo

HERKIMER-Lucy M. (Compolo) Scialdo, 88, of Palisade St., Herkimer, passed away on Friday morning, July 13, 2007, after a brief illness. At the time of her passing which occurred in St. Elizabeth?s Medical Center, Utica, she was surrounded by her loving family. Relatives and friends are invited to visitation at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 N. Washington St., Herkimer, on Sunday, July 15, 2007 from 4-8 p.m. Mrs. Scialdo?s funeral will begin at 9:15 am on Monday morning, July 16, from the chapel of the funeral home where prayer will be offered and at 10 am from Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church, S. Main St., Herkimer, where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Anthony Ligato, pastor. Procession will follow to St. Mary?s Cemetery, town of Herkimer, where she will be laid to rest. Memorial offerings may be made to MOVAC, Route 5, Mohawk, NY 13407; St. Elizabeth?s Medical Center, Intensive Care Unit, 3rd floor, 2209 Genesee St., Utica, NY 13501; or to the University Health Care Center, University Geriatricians, 90 Presidential Plaza, Syracuse, NY 13202, all of whom have shown exceptional care and thoughtful concern. Born in Little Falls on May 17, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Rocco and Carmella (Perry) Compolo and was graduated from Little Falls High School. On July 26, 1941, she married Marshall Scialdo, Sr., with whom she has shared an enduring relationship of 65 years, one filled with constant love and dedication. She was last employed as a circuit board assembler with General Electric, Utica, retiring after many years of dedicated service. A member of the Roman Catholic Community, she was a communicant of Sts. Anthony and Josephs Church, Herkimer. Lucy was a loving wife, exceptional mother, grandmother and great grandmother and a best friend to all those with whom she shared her life. Her priorities, her concerns, and her responsibilities revolved around her family and home. Gifted with a kind attitude, a loving manner, and a generous spirit, and good listening skills, she always kept her heart and her home open to those who sought her comfort, warmth, and her acceptance in her welcome and in her hospitality. An excellent cook, she loved to prepare meals for her loved ones and friends who gathered around her table for plentiful servings. She always enjoyed feeding and taking care of her humming birds. She loved music and had a wonderful singing voice. Survivors include her beloved husband of 65 years, Marshall Scialdo, Sr., at home; her children: Marsha Scialdo of Falls Church, Va., Richard Scialdo and wife Janice of Matthews, North Carolina, Barbara Plocharczyk and husband Stan of Naples, Fl. and Marshall Scialdo, Jr. and wife Susan of Naples, Fl.,; her brothers and sisters: Frank Compolo and wife Carol of Herkimer and Andrew Compolo of Herkimer, Theresa Shumlansky and husband Richard of Little Falls, Chris Capece and husband Joe of Little Falls, and Jennie Cicciarelli of Dolgeville; her cherished grandchildren: Kelly and husband Ray Peters, Jason and wife Juli Hicks, Claudine Harvey, Dawn and husband Brad Hazelett, Jacqueline Scialdo, John and wife Kerstin Scialdo, Marc Scialdo, David Scialdo; her adored great grandchildren: Richie Mehok, Tim Scialdo, Lara Scialdo, Reid Harvey, Chloe Hazelett, Lucy Hazelett, Olivia Peters, Randy Scialdo, Kylie Hicks, Jacob Peters, and Ella Hazelett; many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. She was preceded in death by two sisters Rose Galini and Frances Richie.
