Obituary of Mildred Sheppard

ILION - WEST WINFIELD - Mildred B. Sheppard, 83, formerly of West Winfield and Ilion, passed away Friday, Oct. 12, 2007, at the Mohawk Valley Nursing Home, Ilion, where she had been a resident. Mildred was born on April 1, 1924, in Sharon Hill, N.Y., daughter of Oscar E. and Ella May (Hogabone) Becker. She attended Middleville schools. She was united in marriage to George Armstrong. Mr. Armstrong passed away April 13, 1976. She later married Lawrence Sheppard, he died Sept. 7, 2001. Mildred was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. Primarily a homemaker, she was last employed by Junior Rite Co. in Herkimer. She was a member of the New Apostolic Church in North Utica. Survivors include nine daughters, Cathy Pritchard and her husband Kelly of Burlington Flats, Debbie Fontaine and her husband Bill of Leonardsville, Sherry Strickland her husband Darrell of Florida, Darlene Williams of Burlington Flats, Vonnie Baker and Kenny of Fort Plain, Dianne Gilbert and her husband Tom of West Winfield, Jean Wildey of West Winfield, and her special friend Frankie, Cissy Ann Wildey of Bridgewater, Vivian King and her husband Wayne of West Winfield; one son and daughter-in-law, David Armstrong and his wife Diane of West Winfield; one daughter-in-law, Ann Armstrong of Cortland; and several stepchildren that Mildred loved very much; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren; two sisters, Leona Cook and her husband Mac, and Elsie Holiday and her husband Dave, all of Florida; two brothers, Delbert Becker and his wife Betty of Palatine Bridge, and John Becker and his wife Vicky of Ilion; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends including her special friend, Jean Hublek of Ilion. She was predeceased by her husbands; one daughter, Mary Susan Crossman; one son, George Henry Armstrong Jr.; grandchildren, William, Frederick and Steven Wildey, and Jennifer Fontaine; and one sister, Virginia Bennett. Mildred's funeral service will be held Tuesday, Oct. 16, commencing at 1 p.m. at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, 102 West St., Ilion, with the Rev. Brian Merz, pastor of the New Apostolic Church of Syracuse, officiating. Interment will be in Frankfort Center Cemetery Family and friends are invited to visitation Tuesday from noon to 1 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the funeral service Mildred's family would like to extend a special thanks to Gus Gould, George Becker, Jamie, Mohawk Valley Nursing Home and Hospice for all the wonderful care and compassion shown during Mildred's stay.
