Mr. Robert E. Smith 83 of 357 County Highway 120, Town of Oppenheim, died Thursday evening May 10, 2007 at his residence after an extended illness. Bob was born in Little Falls on August 4, 1923 the son of John and Edna (Kashuba) Smith and attended Dolgeville Schools. A veteran of World War II he served honorably in the United States Navy. His marriage to the former Beverly J. Miller took place on April 24, 1948 in Herkimer. Mrs. Smith predeceased him on October 7, 2001. Bob was employed for 36 years in the transportation department of the Dolgeville Central School as a bus driver. He also was a well known salesman working for area car dealerships including the former Paul Newman Motor Sales of Dolgeville, the Easter Auto Mall of Ilion and the former Dekater & Stahl Motors of Dolgeville. Bob enjoyed boating and all outdoor activities. He is survived by a Daughter and her husband Cindy and Thomas Mahoney of Gloversville, a Son and his wife Michael and Melody Smith of Dolgeville, his grandchildren Lance Foster of Fredericksburg, Va., Melissa LeMay of Waterford, NY, and Joshua Smith of Dolgeville, and his faithful canine companion ?Puppy?. Calling hours are on Friday evening May 18, 2007 from 6-8 PM at the Roberts & Enea Family Funeral Home 3 Faville Avenue Dolgeville.
