Obituary of Margaret Stasco

ILION ? RICHMOND, Va. ? Margaret Stasco, 89, formerly of Ilion, N.Y., passed away Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2007, at Manorcare Stratford Hall in Richmond, Va. Margaret was born May 14, 1918, in Fort Plain, N.Y., daughter of the late Russell and Madolin Cranker Lohmann. She was married to Joseph J. Stasco on May 10, 1941. Joseph passed away Dec. 4, 1979. They had a son, Joseph W. Stasco, with whom Margaret was very close. Joe passed away on June 6, 2005. Margaret was employed by the local Remington Arms during World War II. She was also employed for many years by Howland-Stienbach stores and retired in 1977. She was a former member of Eastern Star No. 82, Oriental Court of Amaranth No. 97 and AARP Chapter 1410. She was also active for many years with the Guild of Mohawk Valley General Hospital until its closing, and as an election inspector in many districts in Ilion. She was a volunteer for the Catholic Charities Pantry and a member of Mohawk Valley Business Women. Margaret liked to knit, crochet, read, play cards, and when the bus or train scheduled a trip, she enjoyed traveling. She also liked spending time with her family and friends. Margaret is survived by her daughter-in-law, Linda Stasco of Midlothian, Va.; two granddaughters, Pamela White and her husband Paul of Midlothian, Va., and Patricia Stasco and her husband Gregory Gieryic of Arlington Va.; two great-granddaughters, Lauren and Melanie White of Midlothian, Va.; sister-in-law, Ann Bubb of Mohawk; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Family and friends are invited to visitation Sunday, Oct. 28, from 4-7 p.m. at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, 102 West St., Ilion. Mrs. Stasco?s funeral service will be held Monday commencing at 9:15 a.m. at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home and 10 a.m. at the Church of the Annunciation, where Father Anthony Barratt, pastor, and Deacon Jim Bower will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial. Procession to St. Agnes Cemetery will follow Mass. Those wishing to do so may consider memorial contributions in Margaret?s name to Catholic Charities (Ilion), American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, or the Herkimer County Humane Society. Donation envelopes will be available at the funeral home and church.
