Obituary of Frances Thomas

FRANKFORT-Frances (Griffin) Thomas, 90, of 133 Cemetery Street, Frankfort, passed away on Thursday, October 25, 2007 in the comfort of her home surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Thomas was born in Herkimer, daughter of the late Clinton and Mary (Crough) Griffin and attended local schools, graduating with the Herkimer High School class of 1935. She went on to attend the Utica School of Commerce. Frances devoted her life to raising her family. In 1941, she married J. Brady Thomas. Their marriage was a union of 62 years, until the passing of Brady in 2004. The couple resided in Utica, and later in Frankfort. Frances is survived by eight children; Mary T. Mellum and her husband Roger of Houston, Texas; Joan T. Morris and her husband Lloyd of Anchorage, Alaska; John B. Thomas, Jr. and wife Noreen (Durant) of Delmar; Christine T. Farrington and her husband Thomas of Cooper Landing, Alaska; Theresa T. Dreyer of Las Vegas, Nevada; Clare T. Manino and her husband Charlie of Frankfort; Leslie T. Moore and her husband Joseph of Richmond, Virginia; and Peter J. Thomas and his wife Karen (Yurchison) of Stow, Ohio. Frances had a love for flowers. She was a member of the local Garden Club and enjoyed gardening in her yard. One of her favorite past-times was going to local estate sales. She was a longtime volunteer at the Mohawk Valley Nursing Home. Frances will always be remembered for her many years of family dedication, hard work, and the caring of others. She was a communicant of Sts. Peter and Paul Church, later attending Our Lady Queen of the Apostles Church in Frankfort. She is survived by her sister, Jeanne Griffin Kotary of Herkimer; sisters-in-law, Mary Mathers of Saratoga; Rita Ewers, and husband Orm of Clinton; Jane Collins and husband Jim of Frankfort; and Anne Blasting of Herkimer, as well as 28 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Frances was predeceased by her sisters Susan Kelly, Doris Neal, Rachel Griffin and brothers Fred, Jim and Paul Griffin. The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff at Hospice Care, especially Arline, Violet, Judy, and Sister Sharon for the kindness, compassion and care they extended to Frances during her illness and passing. Relatives and friends may pay their respects at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Rd., between Frankfort and Ilion, (894-8000) on Sunday, October 28, 2007 from 6-8 p.m. Her funeral will commence at 10:15 am on Monday, October 29, 2007 from the chapel of the funeral home and at 11 am from Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church, Frankfort where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Procession will follow to Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer where she will be laid to rest.
