Obituary of Dayton Thomes

MOHAWK - Dayton S. Thomes, 66, of Grove Street, Mohawk, a lifelong Mohawk resident, passed away at home unexpectedly Monday, June 18, 2007. Dayton was born April 26, 1941, in Mohawk, son of the late Ralph A. and Harriett (Stone) Thomes. He attended Mohawk schools and was a graduate of Mohawk High School ?Class of 1959.? Dayton was a proud veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard, serving from 1959-1963. He was last employed by Sentinel Co. in Richfield Springs and St. Johnsville as an industrial electrician. Prior to that he was employed by Chicago Pneumatic in Utica for 33 years. He was a life member of the Mohawk American Legion Crowley-Barnum Post 25, and was a longtime member of the Mohawk Volunteer Fire Department. Dayton was very active and enjoyed serving as president of his Mohawk High School Class reunions for many years. Survivors include one daughter, Jodi L. Thomes of Placentia, Calif.; one brother and two sisters-in-law, David Thomes and his wife Karen Hall of Mohawk, and Mary Thomes of Virginia; his special nephews and nieces, Robert Thomes and his wife Helen of Mohawk, Sandy Oldfield and her husband Randy of Herkimer, Ralph Thomes and his wife Linda, and Sue McCampbell and her husband Tom all of Virginia; Dayton's aunts, uncles, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, and brother, Ralph Thomes. In keeping with Dayton's wishes there will be no public calling hours or funeral services. The U.S. Coast Guard will accord full military honors. A special thanks to Dayton's nephew, Robert Thomes for his kindness, support, and love shown to Dayton over the past years.
