Obituary of Keith Turner

HERKIMER-Mr. Keith F. Turner, 82, of Jeffrey Street, Herkimer, passed away on Wednesday morning, December 5, 2007 in Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown. He was born on January 6, 1925, in Cincinatti, Ohio son of the late William H. and Yula D. (Vogel) Turner. The family came to Herkimer in 1936 and Keith graduated from Herkimer High School. June 28, 1947 began a loving and devoted union when he was united in marriage with Rita Keddell in St. Francis de Sales Church, Herkimer, celebrating their 60th anniversary this past years. An honorably discharged World War II Veteran, Keith served with the United States Navy from July 1, 1942 until April 15, 1946. He was awarded the following decorations: American Theater, Asiatic Pacific Theater and Victory Medals. He worked as a telegraph operator for many years for the New York Railroad system and was last employed as a letter carrier for the Herkimer United States Post Office. Keith attended St. Francis de Sales Church, Herkimer. Mr. Turner was very active in the village of Herkimer belonging to the Herkimer Michael S. Pliseck VFW Post #4612, eighteen year member of the Herkimer Elks Lodge #1439, past Grand Knight with the Knights of Columbus of Herkimer and the American Legion Post #38, Herkimer. Keith was also a former call fireman for the Herkimer Fire Department and was a ham radio operator. In his earlier years, Keith was a wonderful athlete. Two of his favorite sports were football and baseball and because of his extraordinary pitching talents tried out for the New York Giants major league team. He enjoyed collecting baseball cards and was an avid New York Yankees and New York Giants fan. Imbued with a great strength of character, Keith undertook all projects and fulfilled all responsibilities, both in his professional pursuits and his personal life with unshakable determination and commitment. He enjoyed the rewarding and gratifying company of his family and friends. His greatest joy was caring for his wife, children and grandchildren. He had many good times and made many lasting friendships in the community of Herkimer and will always live on in the memories of those who knew him. Survivors include his beloved family; his wife of 60 and ? years: Rita of Herkimer; his son: Robert "Bob" Turner of Herkimer; his cherished grandchildren: Eric Judson and his wife Sharon, Christian Judson, Erin Judson and her partner Jennifer Fox, Kelly Ladd and her partner Eric Conigliaro and Megan Ladd; his adored great grandchildren: Graeme Wood, Ryan Judson, Jack Judson, Delaney Judson, Nate Fox, Madison Conigliaro and Arya Mullin; many nieces, nephews, cousins; in laws: Robert and Ruth Keddell, Ruth I. Keddell, J. Catherine Hadcock, Joseph and Betty Keddell, and he also leaves many dear friends. Keith was predeceased by a brother Francis Turner and by two beloved daughters: Kay Turner-Ladd and Sue Ellyn Turner-Barker. Relatives and friends are invited to memorial visitation at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 N. Washington St., Herkimer, on Friday morning, December 7, 2007 from 9-10:30 a.m. Mr. Turner's funeral will commence at 10:30 am on Friday from the chapel of the funeral home where prayer will be offered and at 11 am from St. Francis de Sales Church, Herkimer where his funeral mass will be celebrated by the Rev. Mark Cunningham, pastor. Burial will take place in the spring in Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer. Please omit floral tributes. Rather, memorial offerings may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or to the Kay Turner Ladd Scholarship Fund; envelopes and donations may be made at the funeral home.
