Little Falls ? Josephine (Lamonda) Vespasiano, 102, a long time Little Falls resident, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, March 31, 2007, in Little Falls Hospital. She was born March 26, 1905 in Lecce, Italy, the daughter of the late Vito & Congetta (Bianco) Lamonda. Josephine moved to America with her family in 1907, and attended St. Mary's Academy. Her marriage to Anthony "Tony" Vespasiano took place on October 22, 1922 at St. Mary's Church in Little Falls. The couple were great companions and shared a blessed union of 51 years until the passing of Mr. Vespasiano on June 25, 1974. She was last employed at the former Little Frock's Dress Shop in Little Falls, retiring in 1950. She was a communicant of the Holy Family Parish, its Alter Rosary Society, and a former charter member of the DeCarlo Staffo Post Auxiliary. Josephine was greatly loved, honored and respected by her loved ones who will always cherish her in fond and lasting memories. Furthermore, they will always value the traditions which were so meaningful to her and which characterized her family life. She will be remembered for her love of baking, flowers and vegetable gardening. Josephine was very talented with her hands and made crafts of all kinds and always gave generously of her creations. One of her favorite hobbies was sewing and many young girls were pleased to have Barbie clothes that she made. She will be sadly missed by her loved ones; her son: Joseph Vespasiano and wife Beverly of Little Falls, her son in law William Gerhardt of Rochester, PA., her cherished grandchildren: Amy Johnson and husband Birch, Michael Vespasiano and wife Dana, Joseph A. Vespasiano and wife Daphne, Patricia Thomas and Gary Thomas and wife Elizabeth; eight adored great grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was pre-deceased by her daughter: Lucille Gerhardt; her sisters: Angelina Blando, Natalie Leonard, Louise Etue and Frances Filetti and by her brothers: Anthony, Joseph, Louis, Horatio and Michael. Visitation at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 24 W. Monroe St., Little Falls, will be on Monday, April 9, 2007 from 5-7 p.m. Mrs. Vespasiano's funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 10, 2007 at 10:15 am from the chapel of the Enea Family Funeral Home, where prayer will be offered and at 11am from Holy Family Parish, corner of E. Main and John Streets, Little Falls, where her funeral mass will be celebrated by the Reverend Anthony Ligato, pastor. Members of the Holy Family Parish Rosary Society will form an honor guard at the funeral mass. Josephine will be laid to rest in St. Mary's Cemetery, town of Herkimer. In lieu of floral offerings, all memorial contributions may be made to Holy Family Parish or to Little Falls Hospital. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. The family would like to offer their deepest gratitute to the entire staff on the fourth floor at the Residential Healthcare Facility of Little Falls Hospital. They always went above and beyond to make Josephine and her family comfortable.
