Obituary of David Banick

David F. Banick, 77, of 7916 State Route 5, St. Johnsville, passed away on Saturday October 21, 2006 at St. Luke?s Home, New Hartford. He was born May 7, 1929 in Chester, NY the son of the late Lawrence & Stella (Smith) Banick, and was educated in Chester, NY. His marriage to Grace Valastro took place on April 16, 1950 at Sacred Heart in Monroe, NY. The couple shared a blessed union of 40 years, until the passing of Mrs. Banick on April 25, 1990. Mr. Banick was a United States Army veteran. David was last employed at Helmont Mills in St. Johnsville. For 20 years, David was a bus driver for the Little Falls ? Fonda Bus Company in St. Johnsville, NY. At one time he was a mason for several construction companies. Prior to that for many years, he was a dairy farmer. Mr. Banick was of the catholic faith. David was an avid gardener, and was known locally for his sweet corn and fresh vegetables that he grew with the help of his grandsons. Survivors include his son, David L. Banick and wife Valerie of St. Johnsville, a daughter, Grace (Banick) Decker and husband Ronald of Herkimer, a brother-in-law, George Vradenburgh of Newburgh, NY, 5 grandchildren, Lawrence Banick, John Banick, Angela Banick, Ronald Decker and Grace Decker, in-laws, Steve Valastro and wife Evie, Robert Jados and wife Lorraine, Anthony Valastro and wife Margaret and Mary Babcock, and several nieces, nephews & cousins. He was pre-deceased by his brothers & sisters, Wilda Dzierek, Emily DeStefano, Martha Vradenburgh, Edward Banick, Alice Stevens & infant brother Frank Banick. Graveside services will be held on Friday October 27, 2006 at 1:00 pm at St. Columba Cemetery, Chester, NY. Friends and relatives may call at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 9 Center St., St. Johnsville, NY on Thursday October 26, 2006 from 6-8 pm. All memorial contributions may be made to S.A.V.AC.
