Obituary of Monica Brady

Monica R. Brady, 88, of Hillview Dr., Herkimer, passed away on Wednesday evening, December 20, 2006 in Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown.br> She was born on February 18, 1918, in Utica, daughter of the late Arthur E. and Mary (Haggerty) Ritter and was educated in Herkimer schools. She furthered her education attending classes through Syracuse University and the Utica School of Business. She was united in marriage to Clyde E. Woertendyke on August 30, 1943 in Herkimer at St. Francis deSales Church. He was killed in action while serving his country in 1945. She then married James V. Brady on July 5, 1948 in St. Francis de Sales Church, Herkimer. Mr. Brady passed away in January of 1996. Monica owned and operated Valley Telephone Exchange for over 12 years from her home. She was known only as "Monica" to both clients and callers. She retired in 1983 and was a communicant of St. Francis deSales Church, Herkimer. At one time Monica was very active with the Herkimer Girl Scouts.br> Survivors include three sons: Derek J. Woertendyke and wife Cynthia of Oneonta, James A. Brady of Philmont, and Christopher Brady of Jacksonville, NC; a daughter: Melissa Morang and husband Neil of Cape Eliz., Maine; seven grandchildren: Derek J. Woertendyke, II, Heidi Armao, Jason G. Woertendyke, Shane, Joshua and Brianne Brady, and Casey Alexander Morang; five great grandchildren: Shea, Leah and Maia Woertendyke, and Keaton and Michael Armao. Also surviving are Monica's special friends: Linda Rice, Kathy Millitello and her wonderful neighbors.br> The family will be present in the Holleran & Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 N. Washington St., Herkimer, on Friday, Dec. 22, 2006 from 7-8:30 p.m. to receive relatives and friends. Monica's funeral will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday morning, from the chapel of the funeral home where prayer will be offered and at 9 a.m. in St. Francis deSales Church, N. Bellinger St., Herkimer, where the Rev. Mark Cunningham, pastor, will celebrate her Mass of Christian Burial. Funeral procession will follow to Oak Hill Cemetery, Herkimer, where she will be laid to rest.br> For directions to the funeral home, click the facilities link above.
