Obituary of Loren Church

Loren D. Church, age 74, of Country Meadow Drive, formerly a resident of Holland Patent for over 47 years, passed away Tuesday, December 12, 2006, at the Abraham House following a brave battle with cancer. Loren was born July 28, 1932 in Springville, NY, son of the late Ellis and Bertha (Spaulding) Church. Loren was a graduate of Utica College earning a Master's Degree in Physics. He was proud veteran serving with the U.S. Coast Guard. Loren was married to Dorothy Church; she passed away in 2003. On February 14, 2004, he married Patricia A. Waldron at St. Francis's Church in Utica. Loren was retired from General Electric Co. in Utica, where he was an engineer with over 30 years of service. Loren enjoyed the outdoors, cutting, splitting and stacking firewood, tending his gardens and fruit trees. He was proud of his accomplishment of building a boat by hand, and enjoyed time with his loved ones. Loren was always there to lend help when needed. Survivors include his loving wife, Pat, at home; his children, Wayne Church and his wife, Deborah of Old Forge, Kenneth Church of Utica, Steve Church of Barneveld, Loretta Ransom and her husband, Kevin of Saranac Lake; stepchildren, Carolyn Michele Bowers and husband, Terry of Ilion, Mark Miller of Schuyler, Mike Miller and wife, Lynne of Rome, Melinda Crane and husband, Keith of Ilion, and Molly Miller and fiance, Ronald Reile of Ilion; five grandchildren, eight step grandchildren, and three step great-grandchildren; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Rev. Melvin and Bessie Church of SC, and Walter and Diane Church of Gerry, NY; also his nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. He was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy in 2003. Family and friends are invited to visitation Friday, December 15th, from 4-7 p.m. at the Nunn & McGrath Funeral Home, 470 French Road, Utica. Loren's funeral service will be held Saturday, December 16th, commencing at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, 422 Tilden Ave., Utica, where Father Anthony LaFache, Pastor, will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will take place in Evergreen Cemetery, Barneveld, with full Military Honors. Pat and Loren's family wish to thank those who provided loving care to Loren during his illness, especially Hospice volunteers, Mark, Irene, and Peg and Doug Chapman; also Abraham House staff, Bill, Nancy, Barbara, and Sandy. In lieu of floral offerings, please consider memorials in Loren's name to Abraham House and Hospice Care. Donation envelopes will be available at the funeral home and church. All arrangements have been entrusted to the Applegate & Day Funeral Home, 102 West St., Ilion.
