Obituary of Mildred Conklin

Mildred E. Conklin, 86, of Galinsky Apartments, Herkimer, passed away Saturday, Dec. 23, at the Folts Home with her devoted husband Charlie by her side. Mildred was born April 12, 1920, in Schuyler, daughter of Ernest and Maude (Mower) Gillette. She attended Frankfort schools. On July 12, 1985, she was united to Charles M. "Charlie" Conklin in Herkimer. They shared a special union of over 21 years. Mildred worked at Quackenbush Mfg. in Herkimer for 29 years, retiring in 1985. She was an avid reader, at one time enjoyed playing the guitar, and was known as a family-oriented person Survivors include her husband, Charlie at home, her special step-daughter, Barbara Conklin of Newark, N.Y.; one brother and sister-in-law, Royce and Fran Gillette of Effingham, Ill.; several nieces, nephews, many cousins, and her friend and caregiver, Judy Conover. She was predeceased by her parents, her sister Marguerite, and Charlie's loved ones. Mildred's funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 26, commencing at 7 p.m. at the Applegate and Day Funeral Home, 102 West St., Ilion, with Pastor Dale Lawrence of the Harvest Hills Baptist Church, officiating. Family and friends are invited to calling hours Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be in West Schuyler Cemetery. In lieu of floral offerings, please consider memorials in Mildred's name to the Harvest Hills Baptist Church or the Alzheimer's Association. Donation envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
