Mable A. (Downs) Currie, 55, of 131 Colonial Circle, Ilion, passed away Friday, Dec. 22, 2006, at home following a long illness with her beloved family by her side. Mable was born Sept. 18, 1951, in Ilion, daughter of the late John and Hazel (Bruce) Downs. She attended Little Falls and Herkimer schools. Mable was last employed by the Prospect Hotel in Herkimer. She enjoyed playing Bingo and loved being with her loving family, especially her grandkids. Survivors include her children, Peter Downs and his wife Veronica (Williams) Downs of Ilion, Linda (Downs) Pearson and her husband Andre of Utica, and Sean Downs of Utica; her cherished grandkids, Alyssa, Nicholas and Shane Downs of Ilion, Andrea, Andre Jr., Dequan, and Brenda Pearson of Utica; her special great-nieces, Marissa, Destiny, and Kaitlin Bush of Ilion; her devoted sister, Julia Congdon with whom Mable resided; and brothers, Adrian "Roy" Downs of Ilion; John Downs of Auburn and James Downs and his wife Mary of Ilion; many nieces, nephews and cousins and her very close friend, Mary Giantotti of Syracuse. She was predeceased by her two sisters, Catherine Quackenbush and Ester Decker. Mable's funeral service will be held Wednesday, Dec. 27, commencing at 7 p.m. at the Applegate & Day Funeral Home, Ilion, with the Rev. Robert Wollaber, pastor of the Ilion United Methodist Church, officiating. Family and friends are invited to visitation Wednesday from 5-7 p.m. prior to her funeral service at the funeral home. Interment will take place at a later time at Armory Hill Cemetery.
