Obituary of Daniel Ferguson

Daniel Ferguson, 87, of Prindle Apartments, 80 E. North St., Ilion, formerly of Purdy Road, Mohawk, died Sunday, March 26, 2006, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Utica, after a long illness. He was born Sept. 1, 1918 , in Herkimer, the son of Smith and Ada Maria (Tompkins) Ferguson. He was a veteran in World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. At one time he was married to Laura (Voorhees) McGraw. He later married Mabel Davis Slack in 1964 in Pennsylvania. She died on Oct. 20, 2004 . Most recently he married Dorothy (Hill) Bostwick on May 21, 2005, in North Columbia. In his early years, Daniel was a truck driver at Lawrence Paul Co. of Mohawk. He was later employed at Remington Arms Co. for 39 years, retiring in 1980. Daniel attended North Columbia United Methodist Church and was a member of the Mohawk Crowley-Barnum American Legion Post 25. He bowled in the Monday Nite Bowling League in Ilion for many years, and was an avid bow hunter. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; five daughters and four sons-in-law, Laura Piper of Ilion, Linda and Phillip Cook of West Winfield, Patricia and Michael Buchinski of Herkimer, Maryann and Steve Gordon of Ilion and Jean and John Kress of Evans Mills, N.Y.; five sons and daughters-in-law, Daniel Jr. and Sue Ferguson, Harry and Darlene Ferguson, all of Mohawk, Bob Slack of Herkimer, Ronald and Barb Slack, John and Dedre Ferguson, Cora Ferguson, all of Mohawk; two stepchildren, Janice Agusta and husband David of Fairport, Neil Bostwick and wife Norma of Richfield Springs; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter; his brother, David Werner and wife Louise of Rome; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his son, David Ferguson in June of 2004, and his sisters, Ruth and Myrtle. Funeral services will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 30, at the Enea Family Funeral Home, Main Street between Ilion and Frankfort, with the Rev. Hans Drews, pastor of the North Columbia United Methodist Church and the Rev. Brian Engel, pastor of the Mohawk Reformed Church, officiating. Spring interment will be in Dennison Corners Cemetery. Calling hours are Thursday from 3:30-6:30 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service. The Crowley-Barnum American Legion Post 25 will conduct their ritualistic service on Thursday at 6 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ilion Ambulance Fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Daniel's family has entrusted all arrangements to the Graves-Applegate-Day Funeral Home of Mohawk, working together with the Enea Family Funeral Home.
