Obituary of Frank Gartner

Frank G. Gartner, 91 a long time Little Falls resident, passed away on Thursday September 28, 2006 at Van Allen Nursing Home, with his loving family by his side. He was born September 5, 1915 in Fleming, Kansas, the son of the late Frank & Frances (Hodnik) Gartner, and was a graduate of St. Mary?s Academy. His marriage to Mary Yestremski took place on June 29, 1940 at St. Mary?s Church in Little Falls, NY. He was an avid Stamp collector and also loved music. He was very supportive of his grandchildren to take music lessons. Mr. Gartner was a World War II Army Veteran, enlisting on April 23, 1943 and was honorably discharged on December 18, 1945 with the rank of Private First Class. Frank was last employed at Remington Arms in Ilion for over 19 years until his retirement. At one time he worked at the former Cheney Hammer in Little Falls. He was a member of the Holy Family Parish and the Little Falls American Legion Post # 31. Survivors include his loving wife of 66 years, Mary, a son Robert Gartner of Sterling Virginia, a daughter Carole Ehlinger and husband Jim of Colts Neck, New Jersey, 2 brothers, Edward Gartner and wife Lucy of Abington, Virginia, and Joseph Gartner and wife Mary of Little Falls, a sister Frances Tibbitts of Little Falls, 3 grandchildren, Christine McDonough and husband Dan, Catherine Ehlinger, and James Ehlinger, 2 great granddaughters, Allison and Megan McDonough, and several nieces, nephews & in-laws. Funeral services will be held on Monday October 2, 2006 at 10:15 am at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 24 W. Monroe St., Little Falls, NY and at 11:00 am at the Holy Family Parish, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Reverend Anthony Ligato, pastor. Burial will be in St. Mary?s Cemetery, Town of Herkimer, NY. Friends and relatives may call at the funeral home on Sunday October 1, 2006 from 2-5 pm. Members of the Little Falls American Legion Post # 31 are asked to meet at the funeral home on Sunday afternoon at 3:00 pm for services. All memorial contributions may be made to Holy Family Parish.
