Obituary of Robert George

Robert F. George, 81, a long time Dolgeville resident, passed away on Thursday November 9, 2006, at his home with his loving family by his side. He was born September 11, 1925 in Little Falls the son of the late Joseph & Marcella (Coltelli) George. Bob attended Little Falls High School and earned his GED after returning home from serving in the U.S. Navy. His marriage to Dorothy Kovac took place on August 19, 1952 at St. Mary?s Church, Little Falls. Mr. George was a World War II Navy veteran and was called to service on November 26, 1943 and was honorably discharged on January 9, 1946 with the rank of Coxswain. While serving his country, he received the following medals, Asiatic Pacific four Battle Stars, American Theatre, Philippine Liberation one Battle Star and the Victory Medal. He attended the Japanese signing of the peace treaty at Tokyo Bay on September 2, 1945. He served under the command of fellow New Yorker Franklin D. Roosevelt Jr., son of then President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Robert was founder and owner of George Lumber in Dolgeville and Little Falls, established in 1971. After his retirement, Bob continued to work part time in the family business. He was a member of St. Joseph?s Roman Catholic Church, Dolgeville, and was a life member of the VFW, a member of the Navy Destroyers Escort Sailors Association, and the DeCarlo Staffo Post, Little Falls. Bob was at one time, an assessor for the Town of Little Falls, and a N.Y. State certified milk inspector for the Little Falls Dairy. Bob was a gentle and caring man who loved his family above all else in his life. Along with his family, Bob devoted all his free time in building the family business to a great success. In his later years he thoroughly enjoyed his Christmas Tree Farm, during his retirement. Survivors include his loving wife of 54 years, Dorothy, three sons, Michael George and wife Demas, Robert George and wife Jane, and Thomas George and wife Stacey all of Dolgeville; a brother, Raymond George of Little Falls; 2 sisters, Olga Capece of Fort Plain, and Frances Capece of Georgia; 6 grandchildren, Michael George and fianc?e Andrea Gill; Andrew, Marissa, Brianna, Sarah, and Lauren George, and several nieces, nephews & cousins, and two sisters-in-law, Mary Ann George and Mary S. George both of Sandy Lane, Mohawk. He was pre-deceased by 2 brothers, Trooper John George and Joseph George, and a sister, Mary Loucks. Funeral services will be held on Monday November 13, 2006 at 10:00 am from the Roberts & Enea Family Funeral Home, 3 Faville Ave., Dolgeville and at 11:00 am at St. Joseph?s Church in Dolgeville, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Reverend Daniel Lanza. Burial will be in St. Joseph?s Cemetery, Dolgeville. Friends and relatives may call at the Roberts & Enea Family Funeral Home on Sunday November 12, 2006 from 2-5 pm. All memorial contributions may be made to Salisbury & Stratford Volunteer Ambulance or the Dolgeville Fire Department. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
