Obituary of Eleanora Haak

Eleanora A. Haak, 95, resident of Van Allen Nursing Home, formerly of Falls Courts Apartments, 759 E. Monroe St., Little Falls, passed away on Wednesday September 20, 2006. She was born on January 2, 1911 in Dolgeville, the daughter of the late Frederick and Elnora (Krieger) Haak. Miss Haak graduated from St. Johnsville High School in 1928 and later Plattsburg State Normal School in 1931, after receiving a life certificate to teach commercial subjects. She later graduated from the Albany State Teachers College in 1938, receiving a B.S. degree in Commerce. Miss Haak?s professional teaching career included 16 years in Middleport High School and ended with 23 years at the Homer Central School. While there, she was active in professional organizations in her subject area, the Homer?s Teachers Assoc., former advisor of the Future Business Leaders of America Club, Regents Report Chairman, Adult education Instructor and Press Club Advisor. She also belonged to the Delta Kappa Gamma Pi Chapter Sorority, which is an International Honorary Teacher?s Assoc. She was a member of the Oppenheim United Methodist Church and Oppenheim Senior Citizens Center. She is survived by her very close cousins, Alice Silvernail of Oppenheim, Louise and Frank Sammons of St. Johnsville, Marguerite Tennant of Stone Arabia, and Joyce and William Vidulich of Fort Johnson, NY, along with many other cousins. Miss Haak was pre-deceased by her parents and step-mother, Catherine E. Haak, and a brother William (Bud) Haak. Traveling throughout the United States, Canada, Alaska, and Europe, she brought back many lovely memories of past trips on color slides as a result of her hobby, which was photography. There will be no viewing hours. A graveside service will be held on Monday September 25, 2006 at 1:00 pm at West St. Johnsville Cemetery with the Reverend Thomas W. Tennant, officiating. Arrangements are by the Enea Family Funeral Home, 9 Center St., St. Johnsville, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Oppenheim United Methodist Church, 6676 State Highway 29, St. Johnsville, NY 13452 or to the Oppenheim Senior Citizens Center, P.O. Box 225 Dolgeville, NY 13329. The family of Eleanora would like to thank the staff and nurses of the Van Allen Nursing Home for the care and compassion shown to Eleanora during her stay.
