Obituary of Celia Haggerty

Celia Esther Haggerty, 85, most recently residing at Prindle Apartments, Ilion, passed away Wednesday, April 19, 2006, at the Siegenthaler Center Home, town of Kirkland. Celia was born April 10, 1921, in Little Falls, and raised at Smith Corners, the last of 13 children born to Frank and Lillian (Angus) Lawrence. She attended school in Van Hornesville. Her husband, Clifford, died in 1958. Celia raised her children with great love and limited discipline to be responsible citizens. She was an avid reader and enjoyed family gatherings, be it barbecues, baseball games, or helping with the family genealogy. A celebration of life 85th birthday party was held for Celia on April 9, with family and friends attending sharing many special moments spent through the years. Celia leaves behind her children and spouses, Barbara and Tom Joaquin of Florida, David and Jennifer Haggerty, Cheryl and Robert Conkling, all of Ilion, Charles and Margaret Haggerty of Herkimer. Her grandchildren include Thomas and his sister Shana Joaquin of Colorado, Benjamin Haggerty of North Carolina, Shannon and Matt Darrow of Ilion, Eric Conkling of Ilion, Derek and Devon Brewer of Ilion, Chasy Haggerty of Florida, Cory Haggerty of Ilion, Caitlin Haggerty of Utica; great-grandchildren, Ali Joaquin, Kayla Taylor and Rylee Zurbrigen of Colorado, Danny, Matthew, and Olivia Brewer of Maryland, many nieces and nephews and her special friends, Ida, Alice, Kay, Edith and Helen, all of Prindle Apartments. She was predeceased by her grandson, Vincent James Geloso, in 1978. "Don't cry because it's over, Smile because it happened." P.S. We love you Mom. Family and friends are invited to visitation on Sunday, April 23, from 2-5 p.m. at the Applegate & Day Funeral Home, 102 West St., Ilion. Celia's funeral service will be held on Monday commencing at 9 a.m. at the Applegate & Day Funeral Home with the Rev. Paul Smith, pastor of the Ilion First Baptist Church, officiating. Procession to Columbia Center Cemetery will follow. In lieu of floral offerings, please consider memorials in Celia's name to the Siegenthaler House. Donation envelopes are available at the funeral home.
