Obituary of Frederick Hallenbeck

Mr. Frederick Hallenbeck, age 78, of N. Bellinger St., passed away peacefully in his home on Thursday evening, May 18, 2006 with his loving family by his side. He was born in Stone Mills, NY on March 15, 1928, son of the late Henry and Sophronia (Ostrum) Hallenbeck and was educated in schools in Carthage, NY. He has resided in the Herkimer area for the majority of his life. A proud United States Veteran, he served with the U.S. Marine Corps and was honorably discharged on December 15, 1947. In 1948, he was united in marriage with Gladys Sanderson in Herkimer. The couple enjoyed over 58 years of marriage. He was last employed with Herkimer Tool and Model Company as a tool maker and machinist. Frederick was a life member of the Marine Corps League/Herkimer County Detachment and a charter member of AmVets. He volunteered his time with the Meals on Wheels program and also enjoyed fishing in his spare time. Survivors include his beloved family; his wife: Gladys of Herkimer; one son: Larry Hallenbeck and wife Rebecca of Ilion; four daughters: Diana "Kerri" Congdon and husband Ralph of Little Falls, Dawn Jones and husband Warren of Little Falls, Beatrice Barbur and husband Brian of Greenwich, Jami Hallenbeck and Peter Schorer of Mohawk; seventeen grandchildren; ten great grandchildren including Jennifer Walsh who was very special to Frederick; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by five brothers and four sisters and by his grandaughter: Crystal Seaman. The family will receive relatives and friends at the Holleran & Enea Family Funeral Home on Sunday, May 21, 2006 from 12-3 p.m. His funeral will commence at 11 am on Monday, May 22, from the chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Patricia Lawrence, pastor of the First Baptist Church, Herkimer, officiating. Funeral procession will follow to Jordanville Cemetery where he will be laid to rest and full military honors will be accorded.
