Obituary of Charles Hart

Mr. Charles T. Hart, 87, of Top Notch Rd., a lifelong Little Falls resident, passed away early Wednesday morning, December 20, 2006 peacefully in his home. He was born on March 2, 1919 in Little Falls, son of the late John J. and Anna Elizabeth (Donovan) Hart and graduated from St. Mary's Academy, Little Falls, Class of 1937. On May 10, 1947, Charles was united in marriage with Emma (Masle) Hart in St. Mary's Church, Little Falls with his brother Father Bernard Hart officiating. The couple has enjoyed a blessed and maintained a devoted union of 59 years. Charlie honorably served in active Federal Service during World War II in the Army of the United States from February 12, 1942 until December 14, 1945 and was honorably discharged at the Fort Monmouth Separation Center.He received a battle field promotion to 2nd Lieutenant while serving during the Southwest Pacific, New Guinea-East Indies, Bismarck Archipelago, and Southern Philippines Campaigns and was the recipient of the Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon with Bronze Arrowhead, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with Bronze Star, Distinguished Unit Badge and the World War II Victory Medal. He was last employed as site supervisor with H.J. Brandeles Corporation in Utica retiring at the age of 62. He was a communicant of Holy Family Parish, Little Falls. Charlie was active in the Little Falls community. He was very involved with the Boy Scout Troop #51, was a member of the Little Falls Elk's Lodge #42, Little Falls American Legion Post #31 and a member of the former Slovenian Home, Inc where he served as an officer at one time. He was a member of the Plumbers and Steamers Fitters Union Local #79 of Utica. Some of the most special moments that Charlie and his family enjoyed were spent at their camp on Pine Lake where he was affectionately known as the "Pine Lake Mayor". In his leisure time he enjoyed tenting, being outdoors, and working around his home. He was a tremendous handy man and could fix almost anything. Most importantly, Charlie always remained a loyal and devoted husband, father and grandfather always putting the needs of his loved ones before his own. Survivors include his beloved wife of 59 years Emma at home; three devoted children: Robert Hart and wife Donna of Newark, NY, Charles L. Hart and wife Karen of Marion, NY, and JoAnn Hart-Burchell and husband Fred Burchell of Little Falls; his cherished grandchildren and step-grandchildren: Jennifer and Matthew Hart, Caitlyn, Taylor, and Carly Hart and Erin McCauliffe and Eric Burchell; in laws: Barbara Hart of Maryland, Helen Masle and Elsie Masle both of Little Falls, Dorothy Preston of Herkimer and Clarence Masle and wife Natalie of Little Falls; many nieces, nephews, cousins and his adored canine companion: Casey Lu. He was predeceased his grandson Charles L. Hart, Jr., and by his brothers: Edmund Hart, The Rev. Bernard Hart and John Hart. The family would like to thank the following healthcare professionals for the care graciously offered: Dr. Buch and his entire staff, Little Falls Hospital and Emergency Room Staffs, Pharmacist Dave Freytag of CVS Pharmacy and also to Sister Marilyn Hayes and Father Daniel Lanza for their spiritual guidance. A very special thank you to the Little Falls Police Department especially Officers Dan Palmisano and Justin Leszczynski and to the Little Falls Fire Department E.M.T's for their kindness offered. Visitation at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 24 W. Monroe St., Little Falls will be held on Friday, December 22, 2006 from 4-6 p.m. Mr. Hart's funeral will commence at 10:15 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 23 from the chapel of the funeral home where prayer will be offered and at 11 am from Holy Family Parish, corner of E. Main and John Streets, Little Falls, where the Rev. Anthony Ligato, pastor, will celebrate his Mass of Christian Burial. Procession will follow to St. Mary's Cemetery, town of Herkimer, where he will be laid to rest and full military honors will be offered by members of the United States Army. The family requests that memorial offerings be directed to the Holy Family Parish Memorial Fund or to the Little Falls Hospital Development Fund; envelopes may be obtained at the funeral home. The following organizations will conduct ritualistic services on Friday evening: American Legion Post #31 at 5:15 p.m. and the Little Falls Elk's Lodge #42 at 5:45 p.m. For directions to the funeral home, click the facilities link above.
