Stewart L. Hicks, 91, formerly of 71 W. North St., Ilion, died Wednesday, June 28, 2006, at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare, New Hartford. He has been a recent resident of Folts Home, Herkimer. He was born on Sept. 12, 1914, in Ilion, the son of David L. and Lettie (Johnson) Hicks and attended Ilion schools. On Feb. 17, 1934, he was married to Mary Burdick in Frankfort. She died on March 28, 1963. Mr. Hicks was employed as a grinder at Sperry Rand Univac and a machine operator at Chicago Pneumatic Co. and Bendix Corp., Utica. Stewart was a member of the Church of the Annunciation and N.Y.S. National Guard - 101st Infantry. Survivors include two sons, Raymond Hicks and his wife Patricia of Ilion, Stewart Hicks and his friend Winnie of the town of Ohio; three daughters, Marjorie Bartiakiac of Utica, Mary Conroy of Herkimer, Sharon Besig and her husband Paul of Mohawk; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his son, Richard Hicks and his daughter, Joanie Hicks. Funeral services will be held at 11:45 a.m., Saturday, July 1, at the Applegate & Day Funeral Home, 102 West St., Ilion, and 12:30 p.m. at the Church of the Annunciation, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Anthony Barratt, pastor. Interment will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, West Winfield. Calling hours are Friday from 4:15-7:15 p.m. at the Applegate & Day Funeral Home.
