Obituary of Mary Hoke

Mrs. Mary R. (Dodge) Hoke, 85, of Henry St., Mohawk, formerly of Herkimer, entered into eternal rest on Thursday evening, March 9, 2006. Her passing occurred in Mohawk Valley Nursing Home, Ilion. She was born on April 19, 1920 in the town of Little Falls, the daughter of the late John and Anna (Doyle) Dodge and was educated in Fairfield schools. She lived in Herkimer for many years. On September 23, 1950, Mary was united in Holy Matrimony with Nelson G. Hoke in St. Francis de Sales Church, Herkimer with Father Caheddy, officiating, a union which has been founded upon the couple's devoted closeness and the concern which they share for one another's well-being. She was last employed with the former Martin Reel Company in Mohawk, retiring after twenty six years of dedicated service. Because Mary was a talented dancer, many of her leisure activities centered around this favorite hobby of hers. She was past president and vice president of the Mohawk Valley Square Dancers and was a member of the Mohican Round Dancers. She was an avid polka dancer and ball room dancer. Mary and Nelson's favorite dance of all was the waltz. Mary was a wonderful and outstanding family woman. Her relationships with family and friends were filled with the life and spirit of her fun-loving nature. She established close relationships with her loved ones who will cherish fond memories of the pleasant and enjoyable occasions they shared with her. Survivors include her husband of 55 years: Nelson, of Mohawk; many special nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws. She was predeceased by two brothers: Joseph and Brian Dodge and by a sister Elizabeth Godlewski. The family invites relatives and friends to visitation at the Holleran & Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 N. Washington St., Herkimer, on Sunday, March 12, 2006 from 5-8 p.m. Mary's funeral will commence at 9:15 am on Monday morning, March 12, from the chapel of the funeral home where prayer will be offered thence to Blessed Sacrament Church, Main St., Mohawk where her funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am by the Rev.
