Obituary of Erhard Jablonski

Erhard A. Jablonski, age 81, of the Jordanville Rd., Town of Columbia, passed away Sunday afternoon, April 9, 2006, at Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown, NY. Erhard was born February 5, 1925 in East Prussia (Europe), son of Richard and Emma Jablonski. He attended school in Germany and attended trade school to become a master carpenter. Erhard was a reconnaissance infantryman during WWII, and was wounded during the Normandy Invasion and again near the end of the war. He immigrated to the United States in 1957. As a carpenter, he worked on various jobs in the NYC area and Baltimore which included stairwell work at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and on boats as a woodworker, and also bowling alley in Baltimore, along with other projects in the Northeast. On February 23, 1958 he was united in marriage to Katharina Gergel in New York City. In 1961 he and Katharina purchased their farm on Jordanville Road and moved to upstate NY. Erhard was employed as a master carpenter with the Carpenters Union in Syracuse/Utica and also took great pride in running his dairy farm on Jordanville Rd. Erhard retired from farming in 1977 and as a carpenter in 1987. Survivors include his wife, Katharina, at home; one son, Raymond E. "Ray" Jablonski of Maryland; his brothers and sisters in Europe, Rosita, Erngard, Arno, Lilly, and Marlena; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his sisters, Irene and Erna; and brothers, Siegfred and Herbert. Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation Thursday, April 13, 2006, from 5-7 p.m. at the APPLEGATE & DAY FUNERAL HOME, 102 West St., Ilion.
