Obituary of Edward Johnson

Edward K. ?Ed? Johnson, 75, of Shoemaker Road, Mohawk, passed away at home Wednesday morning, Aug. 2, 2006, with his loving family by his side. Ed was born Sept. 21, 1930, in Mohawk, son of the late Raymond K. and Geneive (Race) Johnson. He attended local schools. On Aug. 9, 1947, he was united in marriage to Norma M. Jowett, a devoted union of almost 59 years. Ed proudly served his country as a member of the Army National Guard from 1948 to 1952. He was last employed as a mechanic at Central New York Coach Lines. Ed was associated with the Herkimer County Fair for many years, and was currently serving as vice president. He was a dedicated and devoted family man who cherished his loved ones. Survivors include his loving wife Norma, one daughter, Sharon Mayeda of Rome; one son and daughter-in-law, Wayne R. and Debora Johnson of Ilion; one daughter-in-law, Rose Johnson of Mohawk; two sisters, Betty Neale and Shirley Raux, both of Herkimer; his cherished grandchildren, Roxanne Johnson of Ilion, Kenneth Johnson Jr. and wife Tina of Mohawk, Heidi Hitchcock and husband Dan of Eagle Bay, Michael Johnson of Ilion, Charles White Sr. and wife Lynn of West Winfield, Heather White of Rome; and great-grandchildren, and his extended family members. He was predeceased by his son, Kenneth E. Johnson Sr., infant son, Frederick Johnson and son-in-law, George Mayeda. Family and friends are invited to visitation Saturday, Aug. 5, from 1-3 p.m. at the Applegate & Day Funeral Home, 102 West St., Ilion. Ed's funeral service will be held Saturday, commencing at 3 p.m., at the funeral home following visitation. Ed's grandson, Charles White Sr., will officiate. Interment in Mohawk Cemetery will take place at a later date and time following his cremation. Those wishing to do so may consider memorial contributions in Ed's name to the American Heart Association. Donation envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
