Obituary of Lillian Lasher

Lillian A. (McCumber) Lasher, 96, formerly of Frankfort, West Winfield and Ilion, died on Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2006, at the Masonic Care Community of Utica. She was born on Feb. 16, 1910, in Herkimer, N.Y., the daughter of Bert G. and Alida Mae (Rowland) McCumber and was a graduate of Morgan Street School, Ilion. On Feb. 18, 1928, she was married to Frank Lasher at St. Augustine's Episcopal Church, Ilion. He died in 1977. Lillian was a nurse at Ilion Hospital for more than 30 years and later owned and operated Lasher's Nursing Home in West Winfield for more than 10 years. She was a member of St. Augustine's Episcopal Church, Ilion, a 50-plus year life member of O.E.S., Ilion Evening Star 82, Past District Oracle and Past Recorder Royal Neighbors of America, life member Kiwanis and was a Kiwanis Champion. Survivors include one daughter, Donna McKee of White House, Tenn.; 13 grandchildren, Jeanne Buehler and husband Gary of Oriskany, Joanne Moore and husband Theron of Ilion, Robert Lasher of Herkimer, John Lasher Jr. and wife Larraine of Mohawk and Joel Lasher of Ilion, Suzanne Remo and husband Joe, Michael McKee, Keith Lasher, Donnie, Debbie, Linda, Dawn and Tammy; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, the Rev. Robert McCumber of Utica and his wife Betty of Texas and Clarence McCumber and his wife Fran of Tennessee; one sister, Betty Laventure of Virginia; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by five sons, Frank, Robert, Don, Bert and John Lasher; four brothers, Ralph, Chuck, Hank and Fred McCumber; four sisters, Marian Antony, Ruth Oliver, Theresa Bouton and Mary Maida. Friends and relatives are invited to attend a memorial service on Sunday, Dec. 31, 2006, at 2 p.m. at St. Augustine's Episcopal Church, Ilion, with the Rev. Thomas Trees, rector, officiating. Spring interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Herkimer. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lillian (McCumber) Lasher Memorial Fund. Donation envelopes are available at the memorial service or at Applegate & Day Funeral Home, Ilion. All funeral and burial arrangements were prearranged and entrusted to Applegate & Day Funeral Home, 102 West St., Ilion.
