Frank Logar

Obituary of Frank Logar

Mr. Frank C. Logar, age 79, of 7 Diamond Street and a lifelong resident of Little Falls entered into eternal rest August 9, 2006. Frank was born on August 12, 1926 in Little Falls, the son of the late Thomas and Frances (Hojan) Logar. He was educated in Little Falls schools. On December 13, 1944 Frank enlisted with the United States Army. He served our country with honor during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He served with the Seventh Cavalry in the Southern Philippines campaign. His decorations included the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon, the World War II Victory Medal, and the Army of Occupation Medal. He received an honorable discharge from the Army on November 15, 1946, and at the time held the rank of Private First Class. He was much honored when his name was engraved upon the Herkimer County Veterans Memorial Park "Wall of Honor". Frank was a member of the Holy Family Parish in Little Falls. He worked for many years as a construction laborer until the deteriorating health of his parents required that he stay home to provide them full time care. He was a member of several Veterans organizations including the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Little Falls DeCarlo-Staffo Post No. 8. He was also a member of the Slovenian Home, Inc. Frank was known for his joy for life and his generosity to his many nieces and nephews. He always found a way to recognize and remember all of the special days of his nieces and nephews, especially birthdays, holidays, graduations and other celebrations or achievements. He was a devoted son to his parents and spent many of his midlife years taking care of and providing for their care at home. He was a stubborn, proud and independent person who also had a loud, boisterous laugh that he shared with great enthusiasm and a big smile. During the last few years as his health problems increasingly reduced his mobility he finally accepted a phone in his home and enjoyed conversations with family and friends. His family and friends will always remember his final words whenever saying goodbye, by phone or in a letter, "wishing you the best, the very, very best!" He is survived by his sister: Maria Mills of Lemoyne, PA. Frank is also survived by his in-laws, Amelia Logar, and Helyn Logar of Little Falls. His many special nieces and nephews include: Dr. Donald F. Staffo along with his wife Dr. Marilyn Staffo of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; and Gary T. Staffo along with his wife Jocelyn of Springfield, VA; his grandnieces: Andrea, Deanna, and Kristin Staffo; Kathy Logar of Albany, NY; David Logar of Little Falls; Darlene (Logar) Perry and grandniece Allison Perry of Chadwicks, NY; Christine Logar of Rochester, NY; and William P. Mills III of Harrisburg, PA. Frank was preceded in death by his brothers, Loddie and Thomas Logar, his sister Mrs. Pauline (Logar) Staffo, and his niece Lorraine Mills. When he required assistance, Frank was very grateful of the care provided him by special niece Christine Logar and his loyal friends Matt Foley and John Lorenzoni. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and the entire Bassett Hospital Intensive Care Unit staff for the personal care they provided Frank during his final days. Our thanks are also extended to the staff of the Herkimer County Office of Aging and the Rome Veterans Affairs Office who provided excellent support for Frank during the last few years. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Frank's honor may be considered for the Herkimer County Office of Aging in Herkimer, the Disabled Veterans, or to a charity of your choice.
