Obituary of Pauline Mackin

Pauline A. Mackin, 87, currently of 80 E. North St., a lifelong Ilion resident, passed away Thursday, Jan. 5, 2006, at the Mohawk Valley Nursing Home, Ilion. Pauline was born March 2, 1918 , in Ilion, daughter of William and Abigail (Foisy) Burger. She attended Ilion schools and was a graduate of Ilion High School ?Class of 1936,? and attended Crouse Irving School of Nursing in Syracuse. On May 24, 1941, Pauline was united in marriage to John J. Mackin in Ilion, a blessed union of over 39 years until Mr. Mackin's passing on Jan. 4, 1980. Pauline was employed as a nurse at the Mohawk Valley General Hospital in Ilion, retiring in 1980 with 25 years of dedicated service. She was a member of the Church of the Annunciation, and at one time served as a eucharistic minister. She was a charter member of the Beta Chi sorority at Ilion High School, past president of the Mothers Club, past vice grand regent Catholic Daughters Court St. Bridget, past president Ilion Council of Catholic Women, Ilion K of C Auxiliary and was past president of the London Towers Tenants Association. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathleen ?Kathy? Coffin and her husband Bill, Gail Trosset and her husband Jon, all of Ilion; two sons and daughters-in-law, David Mackin and his wife Mary Ann of Ilion and John Michael Mackin and his wife Nancy of Jacksonville, Fla.; 12 cherished grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins, several great-grandchildren and many dear friends and neighbors. She was predeceased by her husband, John and brother, William ?Bill? Burger. Pauline's funeral service will be held Saturday, Jan. 7, commencing at 9:15 a.m. at the Applegate and Day Funeral Home, 102 West St., Ilion and 10 a.m. at the Church of the Annunciation, where Father Anthony Barratt, pastor, will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment in North Columbia Cemetery will take place later this spring at a date and time to be announced. Family and friends are invited to visitation Friday (today) from 4-7 p.m. at the Applegate and Day Funeral Home, Ilion.
