Helen M. Maurice, 87, of Bennett Manor Drive, East Syracuse, formerly of Woodland Avenue, Ilion, passed away Friday Jan. 13, 2006, at Crouse-Irving Memorial Hospital, Syracuse. Helen was born April 21,1918, daughter of Devalan and Mary (Perry) Bunce. She attended local schools. On May 11, 1946, she was married to Richard H. Maurice, a blessed union of almost 37 years until Mr. Maurice's passing on June 2, 1983. Primarily a dedicated wife, mother and homemaker, Helen was employed as a nurse's aid in Utica for many years. She was a member of the Oran Community Church and a past member of the Ilion United Methodist Church. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen H. and the Rev. Nelson Stafford of Manlius; three sons, Kenneth Maurice of Rochester, Keith R. Maurice and his wife, Judith of New Holland, Pa., and Kevin J. Maurice of Stevenson, Wash; her grandson, Daniel J. Maurice, and granddaughter, Stephanie Stafford; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Lillian Steele of Broadalbin, Ella Christman, and Margaret and George Smith of Little Falls, and her nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Richard, five brothers, five sisters and their spouses. Helen's funeral service will be held Monday, Jan. 16, commencing at noon at the Applegate and Day Funeral Home, 102 West St., Ilion, with Helen's son-in-law, the Rev. Nelson Stafford officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery, Herkimer. Family and friends are invited to visitation Monday from 10 a.m. to noon prior to the funeral home service. In lieu of floral offerings, memorials may be considered in Helen's memory to the Oran Community Church. Donation envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
