Sandra A. "Sandy" (Kast) McCarthy, 67, formerly of East Herkimer, most recently of Ilion, passed away in her home on Sunday, Aug. 27, 2006. Sandy was born on January 29, 1939, in Herkimer, daughter of the late LeRoy and Esther (Leonard) Kast and was educated in Herkimer schools. She was raised in East Herkimer. For the past twenty years she has resided in Ilion. Sandy's last employment was with Temple Emmanuel in Utica where she was the office manager. She was a member of the Herkimer County Historical Society, East Herkimer Health Counsel and was active with the East Herkimer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. The foremost priority in Sandy's life was her combined roles of mother, sister and "nana" as she was affectionately called by her loved ones. She was a dedicated parent and a devoted and generous grandmother. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends. Survivors include her children: Deirdre Polak and husband John of Marcy, Daniel McCarthy and wife Tammy of Deerfield, and Dean McCarthy and fianc? Tara of Little Falls; a brother: Jack Kast and wife Maureen of Ilion; two sisters: Sharon Jaquish of East Herkimer and Cheryl Masur and husband Michael of E. Herkimer; two cherished grandchildren: Austin and Hannah McCarthy; many nieces, nephews, cousins and two special friends: Lloyd Gallup and Nancy. She was predeceased by a brother in law: Frank Jaquish. The family will receive relatives and friends at the Holleran & Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 N. Washington St., Herkimer, from 4-8 p.m on Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2006. The funeral will commence at the conclusion of calling hours (8 p.m.) in the funeral home on Tuesday. Burial in Oak Hill Cemetery, Herkimer, will be held at the convenience of the family. Kindly consider memorial offerings to the East Herkimer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.
