Vera A. Mowers, age 83, of 4 E. Center St., Mohawk, died unexpectedly on Friday, October 6, 2006, at Mohawk Valley Nursing Home, Ilion. She was born on May 1, 1923 in Mohawk, the daughter of Frank and Hazel (Ridgeway) Getman and graduated from Mohawk High School. On August 21, 1943, she was married to Lyle J. Mowers in Cedarville. He died on January 9, 1989. Vera was a member of the Columbia Center United Methodist Church. She enjoyed baking and being a farmer's wife. Her family was most important to her. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Clifford Lane of Ilion; her sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Luann Mowers of Mohawk, Daryl and Barbara Mowers of Ilion; 12 grandchildren, Cheryl Dickenson and friend, Darryl Piper, Cari Ann Maneen and husband, Shaun, Dennis Mowers II and wife, Polina, James Mowers, D.J. Raux and wife, Hilary, Renee Matthews and husband, Steven, Michele Lane, Brian Lane and wife, Kristie, Sean Mowers, Shannon Crisman and husband, William, Brian Mowers and Ashley Mowers; 18 great-grandchildren; her sister, Erma Teelin of Baraboo, WI; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her stepbrother, Vic Muller; and her close companion, Donald E. Keeler, Sr. Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m., Tuesday, October 10, 2006, at the Applegate & Day Funeral Home, 102 West St., Ilion, with Rev. Hans Drews officiating, assisted by Rev. Nelson Stafford and John Brewer. Interment will be in Cedarville Cemetery. Calling hours are Tuesday from 12:15 p.m. - 3:15 p.m. prior to the service.
