M. Lillian Palmer, 94, of 25 E. River Dr., Ilion, died Monday, May 22, 2006, at the home of her daughter, Ann, after a long illness, with her family by her side. She was born on July 21, 1911, in Gloversville, the daughter of Fred and Margaret (McCabe) Brothers and graduated from Ilion High School in 1929. On Jan. 11, 1930, she was married to Elmer ?Dick? J. Palmer in Ilion. He passed away in 1961. In her early years she was employed at Ilion Sentinel and W.T. Grant Co. She was later employed by Dr. James Anderson, local dentist in Ilion, as his receptionist for 15 years. Most recently, she worked as an organist and housekeeper at St. Anthony's Church, Herkimer. She was a member of the Church of the Annunciation, Court St. Bridget No. 265 Catholic Daughters of the Americas and a former member of the Altar Rosary Society. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Ann and Fred Vivacqua, Mary and William Murphy of Ilion; two daughters-in-law, Jeanne Palmer of Rome and Juliann Palmer of Ilion; eight grandchildren, Michael Palmer and his wife Sharon of Whitesboro, Daniel Palmer of Ilion, Donald Vivacqua and his wife Lorraine of Falls Church, Va., Maryjo and Ritamarie Vivacqua of Ilion, William Murphy and his wife Katherine of Somerville, Mass., Michael Murphy and his wife Corie of Dumfries, Va., Margaret Mary Giovinazzo and her husband Gregory of Woodbridge Va.; three great-grandchildren, Dedra Palmer of Whitesboro, Will Murphy of Dumfries, Va., and Alyssa Giovinazzo of Woodbridge, Va., and several cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, Elmer, her brother, Father Donald Brothers, two sons, Richard and Michael Palmer, her daughter, Margaret Mary Palmer and her granddaughter, Marguerite Anne Palmer. Funeral services will be held at 9:15 a.m. Saturday, May 27, at the Applegate & Day Funeral Home 102 West St., Ilion, and 10 a.m. at the Church of the Annunciation, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Anthony Barratt, pastor assisted by Deacon Donald McCabe and Deacon James Bower. Interment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, North Ilion. Calling hours are Friday, May 26, 2006 from 5-8 p.m. at the Applegate & Day Funeral Home. The Court St. Bridget No. 265 Catholic Daughters of the Americas prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Members of the Catholic Daughters will also meet at the Annunciation Church on Saturday at 9:50 a.m. to form an honor guard for Lillian's Mass of Christian Burial. In lieu of flowers, Mass cards for Lillian would be very much appreciated. The family would like to express their gratitude for the care, compassion and love shown by the following: Father Anthony Barratt, Annunciation Parishioners and all the people who kept Lillian in their prayers.
