Obituary of Oscar Pindar

Mr. Oscar M. Pindar, 80, of 249 S. Main St., Herkimer, a Dolgeville native, entered into eternal rest on Thurs. morning, Feb. 2, 2006 in Saint Elizabeth's Medical Center, Utica. He was born on May 5, 1925 in Dolgeville, son of the late Oscar W. and Freda (Belcher) Pindar and received his education in Dolgeville schools. He has resided in Herkimer for the past several years. A proud veteran of the United States Army he served in the 36th Infantry Division during World War II and received an honorable discharge on March 13, 1946. His last professional employment was with Conrail as a plumber. He was of the Methodist Faith. He was a member of the Michael S. Pliseck VFW Post #4915 and the Little Falls American Legion, Post #31. He was a past fire chief with the Dolgeville Fire Department. Oscar demonstrated a zest for life, living each day to the fullest. He enjoyed the company of family and friends, and derived special pride from helping others. He was a wonderful conversationalist with an engaging sense of humor; he loved people and made friends easily. His absence will leave a void in the hearts of all those he knew. Survivors include his beloved niece: Donna Young-Edick and husband Billy of Little Falls; a step sister: Pam Heafey of Utica; a sister in law: Santa Pindar; great nieces and nephews: Stephanie Young, Christopher Young and Nicholas Edick. He was predeceased by his brother: William Pindar. There will be two hours of calling at the Roberts & Enea Family Funeral Home, 3 East Faville Avenue, Dolgeville, on Saturday morning, Feb. 4, 2006 from 10am until 12 p.m. Oscar's funeral will commence at the conclusion of calling hours in the funeral home with the Rev. Joseph Famulare, pastor of the Trinity St. Michael Episcopal Church, Middleville, officiating. He will be laid to rest this spring in Stratford Cemetery where full military honors will be accorded. Kindly consider memorial offerings to the American Lung Association; envelopes are available at the funeral home. The family would like to thank the staff of the Mohawk Valley Nursing Home, Ilion, for exceeding the highest standards for dedicated, compassionate care giving and also to Dr. Haas for his professionalism and friendship. The Little Falls American Legion will gather at the funeral home at 11 am on Saturday to conduct their service. Members of the Herkimer VFW will conduct their service at 11:45 a.m.
