Obituary of John Pratt

John B. Pratt, Jr., 75, of Ward Road, a Herkimer native, died on Wednesday morning, Oct. 25, 2006,in St. Elizabeth's Medical Center, Utica, with his family at his side. He was born on January 2, 1931,in Herkimer, a son of the late John B. and Lillian (Bird) Pratt and attended Herkimer High School. He married his wife Linde in 1952 in Bayreuth, Germany. A proud Veteran, John first entered into active service enlisting on January 6, 1948 with the United States Army. He was honorably discharged on January 7, 1954. He then went on to serve with the United States Air Force and received an honorable discharge on June 9, 1960. He was the recipient of the Army of Occupation Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. He retired from the U.S Government (Federal Aviation Administration) after many years of dedicated service. John was very active in the community holding memberships with the Herkimer Elks Lodge #1439, Herkimer Lions Club, , Michael S. Pliseck VFW Post #4915 in Herkimer, Mohawk American Legion Post #25, and the Civil Air Patrol. In his earlier years he served as a scout master. He was an avid fisherman and world traveler and was an amaeteur tinkerer. Survivors include his wife Linde of Mohawk; two sons: Robert Pratt and wife Natalie of Ilion and Steven Pratt and wife Suzanne of Johnstown; his brother and sisters: Albert Pratt of Mohawk, Helen Leonard of Mohawk, Myrta Sweet and husband Douglas of Richfield Springs, and Marguerite Bond and husband Fred of Mohawk; four grandchildren: Victoria, Reid, Alexander and Sarah; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and inlaws. A memorial service will be conducted on Saturday morning, October 28, 2006 at 11 am from the Holleran & Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 N. Washington St., Herkimer. Relatives and friends may pay their respects at the funeral home on Sat. morning from 9-11 a.m prior to the service. The Mohawk American Legion Post #25 will pay their respects at the funeral home at 10:15 am on Saturday morning. Members of the Herkimer Elks Lodge #1439 will conduct a ritualistic service at 10:30 a.m and members of the Herkimer VFW Post #4915 will conduct their service at 11 a.m. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family.
