Obituary of William Sager

William "Bill" Sager, 90, of 59 Furnace St., passed away on Wednesday morning, March 22, 2006. His passing occurred at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Karen Sager in Amherst, NY. He was born on June 2, 1915 in Little Falls, son of the late Jacob and Margaret (Hessler) Sager and received his education in Little Falls schools. Bill enlisted with the United States Army in 1942. During his tour of duty he was stationed at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii and received an honorable discharge in 1946. On August 24, 1946 he was united in marriage with Edelgard "Edie" Tetz in the Christ Lutheran Church, Little Falls by the Rev. J.F.K. Riebesell. Mrs. Sager passed away on November 26, 2002. Throughout their union of 56 years, Bill and Edie shared a mutually supportive union founded upon respectful and gentle regard for one another. His last full time occupation was with the former H.P. Snyder Bicycle Factory in Little Falls. He was a member of the Christ Lutheran Church, Little Falls and a member of the Little Falls American Legion Post #31 along with the German Maennerchor. Compassionate, honest and selfless, he was an exemplary husband, father and grandfather. In addition, he was a man who generously and willingly shared his love and kindness to all. Bill was a devoted family man, hard-working, responsible and dedicated to his loved ones. Both loving and lovable, he was a man of generous spirit and kind heart. Upon retirement he enjoyed traveling. From 1970 to 1981 he often visited Venezuela and also Colorado and Germany to visit family and reunite with relatives. An avid outdoorsmen, Bill enjoyed fishing especially the West Canada with his good friend Bob Sivack. He loved gardening and taking on woodworking projects in his workshop. He had a strong passion for music which played a big part in his life. In May of 2005, Bill was lucky enough to take part in the World War II Memorial Trip to Washington, D.C. He toured the White House and had the rare treat of meeting the first family's dogs. Both dogs jumped up on Bill and didn't want to leave him. He often spoke about this trip with pride and great satisfaction, and it was the highlight of his last year. He is survived by his two beloved children: Richard W. Sager and his wife Karen, Amherst, NY formerly of Herkimer and Linda M. Wagner and her husband Dale F., Little Falls; 4 cherished grandchildren Melinda Justiniano Zebrowski, Albany, Hugo W. Justiniano, Atlanta, Ga., William M. Sager, Rochester and Michelle Sager Heckler, Newport News, VA, four adored great grandchildren: Abigail Grace and Benjamin Heckler and Michael and Matthew Zebrowski. He is also survived by a niece: Joanne Mencer of Herkimer. He was predeceased by his siblings: John Sager and Natalie Rasbach. The family will receive relatives and friends at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 24 W. Monroe St., Little Falls, on Saturday, March 25, 2006 from 4-7. His funeral will commence at 7 p.m. on Saturday in the funeral home with the Rev. James Paulson, pastor of the Christ Lutheran Church, Little Falls, officiating. He will be laid to rest later this spring in Church Street Cemetery, Little Falls. Kindly consider memorial offerings to the Christ Lutheran Church; envelopes may be obtained at the funeral home.
