Obituary of Irene Saltsman

Irene H. Saltsman, 89, formerly of the Town of Ephratah, passed away on Monday December 4, 2006, at the St. Johnsville Nursing Home. She was born September 7, 1917 in Lassellsville, NY the daughter of the late Cornelius and Carrie (Smith) Bliss and was educated in Lassellsville schools. She was married to Stanton Saltsman on November 8, 1946 in Fort Plain. The couple shared a blessed union of 22 years until the passing of Mr. Saltsman on January 6, 1969. Irene worked for many years on the family farm on Bliss Road. During World War II, she drove gas trucks for Agway in Fort Plain. In 1950 she went to work at the Johnstown Knitting Mill, retiring in 1992. She attended the Leona Trumbull Senior Citizen Center in Lassellsville. Irene enjoyed taking trips with the senior center, bowling, eating out with her friends, driving her small horses, Tom & Jerry around Ephratah and her dog, Buddy. Survivors include her nieces; Eleanor Sweeney of Ephratah, Karen Trumble of Ephratah and Andrea Doherty of Bleeker, NY, her cousins, Jane Ann Dial of Odesse, Texas; Robert Haughton of Palm Coast, Florida; Milton Haughton of Wilmington, NC; and several great nieces & great nephews. Funeral services will be held on Thursday December 7, 2006 at 11:00 am from the Enea Family Funeral Home, 9 Center St., St. Johnsville, NY, with Reverned Winston Hallett, pastor of the Ephratah Reformed Church, officiating. Burial will be in Ephratah Rural Cemetery. Friends and relatives may call at the funeral home on Thursday Dec. 7, 2006 from 10:00 am until the time of the services. All memorial contributions may be made to the Leona Trumbull Senior Center or to a charity of one?s choice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
