Obituary of William Sammons

William J. "Bill" Sammons, 78 of Crum Creek Road, St. Johnsville, passed away on Thursday January 5, 2006 at Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown, NY. He was born March 21, 1927 in Fonda, NY the son of late Simeon L. & Marguerite (Canfield) Sammons, and was educated at Oppenheim schools. His marriage to Alice Showerman took place on November 20, 1948 at St. Johnsville United Methodist Church. Until his retirement in 1992 Bill worked at Helmont Mills in St. Johnsville, where he last held the position of supervisor. Mr. Sammons was of the Lutheran faith. With family as foremost priority, Bill proved himself a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather. Bill was an avid outdoorsman who loved to camp with his family and enjoyed fishing. Bill was a former member of the St. Johnsville Snowbirds Snowmobile Club. Survivors include his loving wife of 57 years, Alice, 3 daughters, Elaine Stewart of St. Johnsville, Dawn Steele and her husband William of Dolgeville, & Carol Steele and her husband Gary of Florida; 4 sons, Wyatt Sammons and his wife Teresa of St. Johnsville, Steven Sammons and his wife Eileen of St. Johnsville, John Sammons and his wife Rose of Little Falls, and James Sammons of Anderson, S.C.; 2 brothers, Frank Sammons and his wife Louise of Oppenheim, & David Sammons and his wife Lois of St. Johnsville; 2 sisters, Marguerite Sammons of South Carolina & Muriel DeLucca of South Carolina; 16 grandchildren, Jeremy Stewart, Tia Stewart, Tonya Sammons, Richard Sammons, Jeffrey Steele, Trisha Krajewski, Carrie Rosier, Tracy Steele, Gary Steele, Mary Steele, Nathan Sammons, Andrew Sammons, Matthew Sammons, Amanda Sammons, Sarah Sammons, & Liam Sammons; 3 great grandchildren, Morgan & Megan Stewart & Colby Rosier, several nieces & nephews, and a brother-in-law; Willard Elwood of Dolgeville. He was pre-deceased by 2 sisters, Beverly LaBorne & Ethel Elwood, and a brother LeRoy Sammons. Funeral services will be held on Monday January 9, 2006 at 11:00 am from the Enea Family Funeral Home, 9 Center St., St. Johnsville, NY with Reverend Carl Evans, pastor of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Little Falls, officiating. Spring burial will be in Rural Park Cemetery, Inghams Mills, NY. Friends and relatives may call at the funeral home on Sunday January 8, 2006 from 5-8 pm.
