Obituary of Harold Settle

Harold J. Settle, 82 of State Highway 67, St. Johnsville passed away on Friday February 24, 2006, at Little Falls Hospital. He was born July 19, 1923 in his family home in Stone Arabia, the son of the late Charles J. & Crystal (Saltsman) Settle, and was a graduate of St. Johnsville High School. His marriage to Marian Hood took place on May 25, 1945 in Lyons, NY. Harold owned and operated the Settle Farm in St. Johnsville that was passed down to his son Michael and his wife Lorinda. Mr. Settle was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Stone Arabia. He was also a 50 year member of the St. Paul?s Lutheran Church Council, 30 year member of the Fonda Fair Board, life time member of the Holstein Friesian Association, 50 year member of the St. Johnsville Masonic Lodge, 4 ? H leader, former president of the Montgomery County Extension Service, and member of the New York State Farm Bureau. With family as his foremost priority, Harold proved himself a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather. Harold was an avid outdoorsman, who loved to travel throughout the country with his wife. His hobbies included bird watching and bowling. The major loves of his life were family, friends & faith. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Marian, his daughter, Crystal Hamelink and her husband Drew of Ballston Lake, NY, 3 sons, Peter J. Settle of Saratoga, Springs, Thomas M. Settle and his wife Beverly of Madison, & Michael C. Settle and his wife Lorinda of St. Johnsville, 3 sisters, Jane Jones and her husband Henry of Fort Plain, Vera Phillips of Canajoharie, & Janet Shuster of St. Johnsville, 10 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and several nieces & nephews. He was pre-deceased by 2 sisters, Laura Getman & Eleanor Chapman. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday February 28, 2006 at 11:00 am at St. Paul?s Lutheran Church in St. Johnsville. Spring burial will be in Fort Plain Cemetery. Friends and relatives may call at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 9 Center St., St. Johnsville on Monday February 27, 2006 from 2-4 & 7-9 pm. All memorial contributions may be made to Bethesda Fellowship in St. Johnsville or the Trinity Lutheran Church in Stone Arabia. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
