Obituary of Margaret Shevat

Mrs. Margaret L. Shevat, age 86, a Frankfort native and a longtime Herkimer resident, went to be with the Lord peacefully on Saturday night, May 13, 2006 in Folts Homes in Herkimer. She was born in Frankfort on October 2, 1919, the daughter of the late Nicholas and Mary Frances (Leno) Norod and graduated from Frankfort schools in 1938. Her marriage to Samuel A. Shevat took place in Frankfort on July 31, 1948. Sam passed away suddenly on May 8, 1965 after a loving and devoted union of 17 years. Margaret was last employed by the Village of Herkimer as Registrar of Vital Statistics. She was also employed for several years as a Teacher's Aide with the Herkimer Central School District. She was a communicant of Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church in Herkimer. A women of strong will and character, she was a constant support for her family, always there for them when they needed her. She considered as the foremost priority in her life her combined roles of wife, mother, and grandmother. Her survivors include her beloved family: her son Samuel A. Shevat and his wife Renee?of Cobleskill; a daughter: Mary Ellen; two sisters Carm Minosh and husband Dominick of Frankfort and Catherine Norod also of Frankfort; two grandchildren: Samuel A. Shevat III and R.J. Shevat, both students at Cornell University. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws: Peg Norod in Pennsylvania, Betty Norod in Ohio, Theresa Nurod in Middleville and Guy Snedeker of Ilion. She was predeceased by eight brothers: Dominick, Michael, Frank, Joseph, Gene, George, Salvatore and Samuel, two sisters: Elizabeth Barberio and Mary Cirelli. The family will receive relatives and friends at the Holleran & Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 N. Washington St., Herkimer on Wednesday from 5:00 - 8:00 pm. Funeral services will commence at 9:30 am from the chapel of the funeral home where prayer will be offered and at 10:00 am from Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church, So. Main St., Herkimer where the Rev. Anthony Ligato will celebrate her Mass of Christian Burial. Procession will follow to Calvary Cemetery where she will be laid to rest.
