Obituary of Rudolph Smith

Rudolph Raymond ?Sloosh? Smith, 65 of 73 Loomis St., Little Falls, passed away on Monday March 6, 2006 following a courageous battle with cancer. Sloosh came to rest at home with his longtime love and companion, Frances ?Fran? Sponable who cared for him faithfully until the end. He was born May 8, 1940, son of the late Rose & Michael Polenski in Gloversville, NY and attended Little Falls Central Schools. Sloosh proudly served his country from 1960 until 1970, completing a tour of duty in Vietnam and received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Ribbon, three Overseas Bars, Sharpshooter Badge and two Good Conduct Medals. He was a longtime employee of Empire Fiberglass of Little Falls, until his retirement. On April 19, 1975 Sloosh married Sylvia Irene McLean of Little Falls. Sylvia passed away in May of 1976, leaving Sloosh a daughter, Tricia Lee, who even in his last days, put a twinkle in his eye. Sloosh leaves many close and loving friends and family members. He is survived his longtime, faithful companion Frances ?Fran? Sponable. He leaves his daughter, Tricia Brown and her husband Kevin, his grandchildren, Brian and Ben Gurtowski and Andrew and Zachary Brown all of West Winfield, NY. He also leaves two brothers, Marty Ralbovsky and his wife Pat of Herkimer, & Michael Polenski and his wife Erin of Middletown, NJ, a brother-in-law, Leonard ?Froggie? McLean and his wife Margaret and an aunt Irma Ralbovsky of Johnstown, NY. He also leaves behind Frannie?s family, who made him their own including Don and Millie Harper, Shirley Allmendinger and Melissa and Greg Zawtocki. Also left behind are many loving nieces & nephews. Sloosh was known to nearly all and had many, many, close friends none closer than his childhood pal and best friend Charlie McCumber. He will be missed perhaps most of all by his favorite felines, Buttons & Carmel. He loved spending time with his closest friends at Little Falls McDonalds. A special thanks to all his friends and neighbors on Loomis St., and everybody that knew Sloosh. He was pre-deceased by two sisters, Rose Ann Gaudin and Elizabeth Ann Polenski. Funeral services will be held on Friday March 10, 2006 at 11:00 am from the Enea Family Funeral Home, 24 W. Monroe St., Little Falls, NY, with Reverend Daniel Lanza, officiating. Spring interment will be in Hartwick Cemetery, Hartwick, NY. Friends and relative may call at the funeral home on Thursday March 9, 2006 from 5-8 pm.
