Carolyn Jean Smith, 67, of 4342 Acme Road, Ilion, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2006, at Valley Health Services, Herkimer. Carolyn was born March 7, 1939, in Herkimer, daughter of Arthur Smithe and Elizabeth (Kirley) Mosher. She attended Dolgeville schools. On June 1, 1957, she was united in marriage to Henry Arthur Smith Jr. in St. Johnsville. Mr. Smith passed away May 5, 2004. Carolyn was the house secretary for the Women's Christian Association in Little Falls, retiring in 2006 with 24 years of dedicated service. Survivors include her daughters, Nancy Burton and her husband Kenneth of Ilion; Susan Dennison of Marion, Va.; grandchildren, Albert Smith and wife Leona, and their children Zachary and Franklin, all of Ilion; Rosetta Smith of Utica, Cristina Bruce and her son Justin of Herkimer, Heather Dennison and her children, Angel and Tyler of Utica; special friends, William Walker of Little Falls, Thomas, Janine, Cassandra and Kendra Walker of Newport, and her friends at WCA and Little Falls McDonald's. She was predeceased by her parents and son, James E. Smith. Family and friends are invited to visitation Sunday, Dec. 17, from 4-7 p.m. at the Applegate & Day Funeral Home, 102 West St., Ilion. Carolyn's funeral service will be held Sunday at 7 p.m. at the funeral home following visitation with the Rev. Jon Noble of the Little Falls Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment will take place in Curtis Cemetery. Carolyn's family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Valley Health Services, especially 1 East for their patience and caring shown to Carolyn during her stay.
