Obituary of Evelyn Spencer

Evelyn A. Spencer, 80, of 229 King St., Herkimer, formerly of Fifth Avenue Extension, Frankfort, died unexpectedly on Saturday, Jan. 28, 2006, at Little Falls Hospital. She was born Jan. 2, 1926 , in Herkimer, the daughter of Andrew and Jennie (Seeds) Oldfield, and graduated from Herkimer High School in 1946. On May 30, 1955, she was married to Ronald Spencer in the Baptist Church parsonage in Herkimer. He died Nov. 7, 2001 . At one time Evelyn was employed as a sales clerk at F.W. Woolworth Co., Herkimer and State Street Mill, Herkimer. Most recently she worked at Nichols of Herkimer and the Charlestown Mall in Utica. Evelyn was an active member, Sunday school superintendent and past president of trustees at the Frankfort United Methodist Church. She was also past president of the United Methodist Women and a member of the Violet Rebekah Lodge, Litchfield Grange, Pomona Grange and Litchfield Senior Citizens and AARP. Mrs. Spencer was a former member of the Frankfort American Legion Auxiliary and the Frankfort VFW Auxiliary. Survivors include her son, Scott Spencer, with whom she resided in Herkimer and his friend Susan Hreczkosij; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Alfred and Lois Oldfield of Herkimer and Charles and Shirley Oldfield of Little Falls; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, Ron; two sisters, Geraldine Engert and Clara Lincourt; two brothers, William and Vernon Oldfield; two sons, Ronald Jr. and Brian Spencer. Friends and relatives are invited to attend funeral services at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 31, at the Applegate & Day Funeral Home, 102 West St., Ilion, with the Rev. Robert Wollaber, pastor of the Frankfort United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be in Crown Hill Memorial Park, town of Kirkland. Calling hours are Tuesday from 5-7 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Frankfort United Methodist Church.
