Obituary of Otto Stefanec

Otto Stefanec, 80, of Millstone Road, Richfield Springs, passed away Saturday morning, April 8, 2006 , at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare, town of New Hartford. Otto was born March 4, 1926 , in Austria, son of Mathias and Elizabeth (Preskar) Stefanec. He was educated in Austria and attended universities in Europe. On Sept. 25, 1956, he was united in marriage to Nancy A. Mosseau at the Ilion Methodist Church. Otto was last employed as an electronic design engineer at Candella Laser in Framingham, Mass. He was of the Roman Catholic faith. Science-related subjects fascinated Otto. He was an astronomy buff, enjoyed playing the piano and loved classical music. Otto was also very adept in using computers, and had a love for the ocean, ships and boats. He was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather. Survivors include his wife, Nancy, at home; his children and their spouses, Brian and Chelagat Stefanec of the town of Columbia, Scott and Kathy Stefanec, Keith Stefanec, all of Ilion, Dana and Kathy Stefanec of Mohawk, Heidi and Tim Farrell of Kentucky; 13 cherished grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; two brothers and a sister in Europe and South America; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Doris and Harry Lewis of Mohawk, and several nieces and nephews. In keeping with Otto's wishes all services are private and under the direction of the Applegate and Day Funeral Home, 102 West St., Ilion. There will be no public calling hours. Interment will take place in Armory Hill Cemetery, Ilion.
