Obituary of Leo Swietlikowski
Mr. Leo Swietlikowski, 84, of Moore Ave., entered into eternal rest on Monday afternoon, January 16, 2006. His passing occurred in St. Elizabeth's Medical Center, Utica, with his beloved family at his bedside. He was born on January 14, 1922 in Herkimer, son of the late Joseph and Stephanie (Fietkiewicz) Swietlikowski and was educated in the Herkimer Central School District. On February 1, 1946 he married Ludamilla Krutz in the St. Francis Rectory, Herkimer, with whom he shared an enduring relationship filled with love and dedication for 59 years. These years were the source of the great happiness which characterized their family life. He received an honorable discharge on February 27, 1946, after serving with the United States Coast Guard. Leo was at one time employed by MDS in Herkimer where he was employed for ten years. His last professional employment was with UNIVAC where he was a computer technician, retiring in 1985, after 30 years of dedicated service. Leo was a communicant of Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church, Herkimer. He was a member of the Holy Name Society. An active member in the village of Herkimer, he served as a trustee and was on the Housing Authority Board. In caring for his family, he provided loving support and thoughtful guidance to his loved ones. He enjoyed the company of family and friends and security of his home; he especially enjoyed his grandchildren who will always cherish fond memories of the pleasant and enjoyable occasions they shared with him. In his spare time he enjoyed woodworking, gardening and working around his home. He leaves his beloved wife: Lud, at home; two beloved children: Joe Swietlikowski of Herkimer and Elaine Mills and husband Donald of Ballston Spa; a brother: Donald "Dizzy" Swietlikowski and wife Dolores of Florida; a sister: Eleanor Yavornitzki and husband Steve of E. Herkimer; six cherished grandchildren: Kristen Pytell and husband Walter, Erin Collings and husband Shaun, Lee Swietlikowski, Jamie Swietlikowski, Samantha Swietlikowski and Melissa Kaszycki; an adored great grandson: Harry Pytell; in-laws: Lydia Krutz and Mary Krutz, both of Little Falls; many nieces, nephews and cousins and his beloved pet dog: Champ. He was predeceased by a sister: Frances Bugaj and her husband Theodore. Visitation at the Holleran & Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 N. Washington St., Herkimer will be held on Friday, January 20, 2006 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Leo's funeral will commence at 10:15 am on Saturday, Jan. 21, from the chapel of the funeral home where prayer will be offered. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11am on Saturday from Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church, South Main St., Herkimer, with the Rev. Anthony Ligato, pastor, officiating. Full military honors will be accorded after the Mass. He will be laid to rest this spring in Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer.
