Gladys L. Van Slyke, 81 of Shelton, Conn., and a long time St. Johnsville resident, passed away on Saturday February 11, 2006 at Bishop Wicke Health Center in Shelton, Conn. She was born June 19, 1924 in Amsterdam, NY the daughter of the late Arthur T. & Dora M. (Fortin) Keough, and was a graduate of St. Johnsville High School, class of 1942. Her marriage to Alvin G. Van Slyke took place on October 6, 1946. The couple shared a blessed union of 53 years until the passing of Mr. Van Slyke on September 9, 1999. Gladys was last employed at the former Felt Shoe Company in St. Johnsville, NY. Mrs. Van Slyke was a member of St. Patrick?s Church in St. Johnsville. Survivors include her son, William Van Slyke and his wife Terry of Shelton, Conn.; a daughter-in-law, Kathy Van Slyke of Morrisville, PA.; 4 grandsons, Adam, Brian, Eric & Nicholas Van Slyke; and many nieces, nephews & cousins. She was pre-deceased by a son Gordon Van Slyke in 2004, a brother Arthur J. Keough in 1998, and a sister Virginia Dockerty in 1980. Funeral services will be held on Friday February 17, 2006 at 9:00 am from the Enea Family Funeral Home, 9 Center St., St. Johnsville, NY and at 9:30 am from St. Patrick?s Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Spring interment will be in St. Johnsville Cemetery. Friends and relatives may call at the funeral home on Thursday February 16, 2006 from 5-7 pm.
