Obituary of Lawrence Vedder

Lawrence E. ?Larry? Vedder, 70, of 126 Rockwell Drive, Ilion, and Holiday, Fla., passed away unexpectedly at home on Thursday evening, Feb. 23, 2006, with his loving wife, Emma, at his side. Larry was born Aug. 4, 1935 , in Newport, son of Ira and Lillian (Potter) Vedder. He attended West Canada Valley schools. On May 17, 1986, Larry was united in marriage to Emma B. Bala in Mohawk. They shared a blessed and special union of almost 20 years. Larry was retired from the Remington Arms Co., Ilion, as a tool grinder, with approximately 42 years of dedicated service. He was a longtime and proud member of the Ilion Volunteer Fire Department, Volunteer Firefighters Association State of New York (FASNY), and enjoyed being a member of the West Florida Remington Arms Retirees Association. At one time Larry enjoyed camping, fishing, hiking and loved to putter around with small engines. A devoted husband, father and grandfather, he truly loved his family and thought of his stepchildren as his own. Survivors include his wife, Emma, at home; three stepchildren, Cherie Brown and her husband Ray of Ilion, James F. Bala Jr. of Montana and Terry Bala and her other half David Paul, both of Mohawk; two granddaughters, Elizabeth Yourdon and her husband Ferris of Keesville, N.Y., Stephanie Krick and her husband David Jr. of Ilion; four great-grandchildren, Alexandria Rock, Trent and Anthony Yourdon and David Krick III; one sister, Doris Vedder of Florida; many nieces, nephews and cousins; many good friends and dear neighbors in Ilion and Florida, especially Jack Fitzer and Rob Zutter, both of Ilion. Larry was predeceased by his brother, Robert Vedder and sister, Dorothy Vedder-LeRoy. In keeping with Larry's wishes there will be no public calling hours or funeral service. A memorial service will be held at the Paines Hollow United Methodist Church at a later date and time to be announced. Those wishing to do so may consider memorial contributions in Larry's memory to the Paines Hollow United Methodist Church.
