Obituary of Prosper Vennera

Mr. Prosper F. Vennera, 83, of 315 N. Prospect St., formerly of N. Washington St., entered into eternal rest on Saturday evening, October 7, 2006 in Albany Medical Center. He was born in Herkimer son of the late Vincent and Concetta Vennera and was educated in the Herkimer School District. On September 18, 1944 Prosper entered into active service with the United States Army. During his career in the military he was the recipient of the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. He served during the Northern France and Rhineland campaigns. On July 23, 1946 he was honorably discharged holding the rank of Tech. Sergeant while serving with the 262 nd Infantry Regiment of the 66th Division. His marriage to Mary E. Tyo took place in St. Anthony's Church on January 20, 1945, with Father Purificato, officiating. Mrs. Vennera passed away in 1977 after a blessed and devoted 32 year union. Prosper was last employed by MDS. He was a communicant of St. Francis de Sales Church, Herkimer. As a devoted family man, Prosper was a good husband and dedicated father and grandfather. In caring for his family, he provided loving support and thoughtful guidance. One of his favorite pastimes was playing tennis and in his younger years was the coach of the Herkimer girls tennis team. Survivors include three children: Jim Vennera and wife Karen of Elmira; two daughters: Susan Florian and companion David Knapp of Ft. Plain, and Sally Long and husband David of Fulton; two brothers: Pat Vennera and wife Clara of Little Falls and John Vennera of California; grandchildren: Michael R. Vennera, Jr., Keri Caprice, David Long, Peter J. Vennera, DiDi Lynn Vennera, Allen Florian and Randall Conrad; great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his son: Michael "Moe" Vennera on January 27, 2001 and by his brother: Frank Vennera. The family will receive relatives and friends at the Holleran & Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 N. Washington St., Herkimer, on Wednesday, October 11, 2006, from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. A prayer service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday in the chapel of the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am in St. Francis de Sales Church, N. Bellinger St., Herkimer, with the Rev. Mark Cunningham, pastor, officiating. The funeral cortege will proceed to Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer, where Prosper will be laid to rest in the family plot.
