Obituary of Morris Volk

Morris C. ?Bud? Volk, 82, of 311 Downey Ave., Herkimer passed away on Wednesday June 21, 2006 at his home with his loving family by his side. He was born November 29, 1923 in East Herkimer, the son of the late George and Susan (Finnigan) Volk. Bud had been a lifelong resident of this area. Bud served our country during World War II with the United States Navy. He enlisted on January 30, 1942, serving aboard the USS Onslow and the USS Chandeleur in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. His decorations and citations included the Good Conduct Medal, the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with 4 Bronze stars; the World War II Victory Medal, the Navy Occupation Service Ribbon with Asian Clasp. Bud was honorably discharged on January 6, 1946, and upon relief from active duty he held the rank of Aviation Machinist?s Mate, First Class. On December 31, 1949, Bud joined in marriage with Elizabeth A. McEachern at Blessed Sacrament Church in Mohawk with Father Brennock officiating. At one time Bud had worked with Mohawk Data Sciences, and UNIVAC, and was last employed as an Industrial Engineer with Momentum in East Herkimer. He was a communicant of the Church of Sts. Anthony & Joseph in Herkimer. Bud was a life member of the East Herkimer VFW Post #6531. He was also a member and past president of the following organizations: East Herkimer Volunteer Fire Department, the East Herkimer Exempt Fireman?s Association, the Herkimer County Volunteer Fireman?s Association, and served on the Board of Directions of the East Herkimer Fish and Game Club. Bud also had at one time served on the East Herkimer Board of Fire Commissioners and the Town of Herkimer Board of Appeals. He is survived by his wife: Elizabeth, his daughters: Cecelia V. Graves of Somers, Judith A. Mosher and her husband Daryl of Stratford, 4 grandchildren: Jeffrey S. Graves and wife Dr. Athena Graves, D.D.S. of Endwell, NY, Theresa A. Volk and friend Patrick Flander of St. Johnsville, Matthew H. Mosher of Stratford, and Michael P. Mosher and friend Brittany Cool of Dolgeville: 4 great grandchildren, Michael & Vaia Graves and Carter & Cade Mosher, several beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws: Francis Crist of Warren, NY, Edward Walrath of Herkimer, William J. McEachern of Herkimer, and Jane Smith of Far Hill, NJ. He was pre-deceased by three brothers; Paul Volk, Sr., James Volk, and George Douglas Volk, and four sisters, Ida Lafayette, Mary Ann Walrath, Patricia Crist and Madeline Volk, and his step-daughter: Colleen Lynch. Funeral services will be held on Saturday June 24, 2006 at 8:45 am from the Holleran & Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 N. Washington St., Herkimer, NY and at 9:30 am from the Church of Sts. Anthony & Joseph, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Reverend Anthony Ligato, pastor. Friends and relatives may call at the funeral home on Friday June 23, 2006 from 4-8 pm. Members of the East Herkimer Volunteer Fire Department are asked to meet at the funeral home on Friday evening at 7:00 pm. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers all memorial contributions may be made to the East Herkimer Fish and Game Club. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
