Obituary of Joseph Wallace

Joseph H. "Sonny" Wallace, Jr., 61, of 4352 Acme Rd., town of Frankfort, entered into eternal rest on Thursday evening, January 26, 2006 in the comfort of his home. At the time of his passing he was surrounded with the love and support of his family members. He was born on April 17, 1944 in Brooklyn, a son of the late Joseph H. and Beatrice (Middendorf) Wallace, Sr. He received his education in Brooklyn schools. On May 11, 1963, he married MaryAnn Davern at St. Mary's Star of the Sea Church in Brooklyn. For 45 years they maintained a devoted relationship in which each was deeply dedicated to fulfilling each other's needs; in addition, throughout the course of their marriage; they celebrated a union in which they shared a commitment to family and enjoyed the many blessings of home and children. Joe and his family came to Utica in 1972 and settled in the town of Frankfort in 1992. His last professional employment was with the Masonic Home in Utica holding the position of housekeeping supervisor and was a well-respected and devoted employee. He was of the Catholic Faith. Joe was gifted with a gentle demeanor and wonderful sense of humor. Over the years he devoted himself to his ever-increasing family circle; his wife, his children, his grandchildren and of course his feline companion Pierre. Among the many significant purposes which he considered to be his life's work and which he accomplished with great success, the most important were these: to establish the unity and stability of the family circle; to offer support; strength, and encouragement to his loved ones; and to provide a happy and secure home life for them. His respect for family values and traditions was always obvious when surrounded by loved ones, especially on Wallace family trips. Joe always appreciated the beauty of the outdoors, the ocean and just simply being in the sun. He enjoyed taking on projects around his home and utilized his unique style in many ways. A man with a great sense of style he never left the house without making sure he was dressed to a tee. In his spare time he enjoyed watching football, especially the Buffalo Bills. He was admired by family and friends alike for his confidence in his self-worth and his respect for others, for his kindness and for his peaceful heart. Survivors include his loving wife of 45 years: MaryAnn; four children: Roberta Guerriera and Anthony Gurriera of Frankfort, JoAnn Carbone and fiance Stephen Jones of Frankfort, Joslyn Wheeler and fiance Randy Arena of Frankfort and Joseph Wallace, III and wife Donna of Frankfort; his cherished grandchildren: Anthony, Thomas, Zachary, Matthew, Joseph IV, Ashley, Jade, and Tiffany; three brothers: Robert Wallace and wife Frances of Long Island, Michael Wallace of Brooklyn and Thomas Wallace of Utica; three sisters: Barbara Metzger of Allentown, Pa., Susan Dowd and husband Frank of Brooklyn and Mary Sosa of Brooklyn; a brother in law who was like a son to Sonny: John Davern and wife Teena.
