Obituary of Robert Wiers

Robert T. Wiers, 78, of Pine Avenue, and more recently of Valley Health Services, beloved husband of the late Hertha Wiers, entered into eternal rest peacefully on April 24, 2006 in St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Utica. He was born on November 19, 1927 in Amsterdam, NY the son of the late Ray and Charlotte (Benedict) Wiers. Robert attended Canajoharie schools and graduated from Canajoharie High School. A proud U.S. Veteran, he enlisted in the Army on September 27, 1946 and was honorably discharged on March 13, 1948, holding the Rank of Tec.5. Mr. Wiers received the World War II Victory Medal for his heroic service to our country. On Dec. 6, 1952 he married the love of his life, Hertha Fiebiger in Canajoharie. The couple shared a cherished commitment to one another and their family for 52 years. At one time Robert along with his brothers Fred, Richard and Ray owned and operated Lovier?s Dairy. He was last employed with the former NFO in Mohawk. He also owned and operated his own pool service in Herkimer. Robert was involved in many clubs including the Michael S. Pliseck Post #4915 of Herkimer, Elk's Lodge of Herkimer, and the Mohawk American Legion Post #25. A loving, father and grandfather he was a best friend to all those with whom he shared his life with. His priorities, his concerns, and his responsibilities revolved around his family. A special pleasure that he truly enjoyed was vacationing in the Outer Banks, North Carolina surrounded by family members. He also enjoyed the times spent with his loyal German Shepard companions. A huge sports fan he especially enjoyed the Buffalo Bills and the New York Yankees. He is survived by his devoted daughter: Teresa "Terry" and her husband Salvatore "Beef" Paratore of Herkimer; cherished granddaughter: Trisha Lynne Paratore and boyfriend Gerry Smithson of Herkimer; a sister: Ann Wiers of North Carolina; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He is also survived by his sisters in law: Irene and Barbara Wiers of Herkimer, Toby Wiers of Mohawk and Jane Wiers of Yorkville. He was predeceased by his brothers: Donald, Fred, Richard, Ray L. Wiers, Jr., a son, Fred Wiers and by two sisters: Carol Bussing and Mary Johnson. The family will receive relatives and friends at the Enea Family Funeral Home, Main Street between Ilion and Frankfort, (894-8000) on Wednesday, April 26, 2006 from 5-8 p.m. His funeral will commence at 11 am on Thursday morning, April 27, 2006 from the chapel funeral home. Funeral procession will follow to Oak Hill Cemetery, Herkimer where he will be laid to rest. Full military honors will be accorded by the United States Army.
