Obituary of Eleanor Wilks

Eleanor (Bluett) Wilks, 82, of 162 S. Fourth Ave., Ilion, passed away Tuesday morning, Nov. 7, 2006, at Valley Health Services, Herkimer. Eleanor was born Dec. 9, 1923, in Herkimer, daughter of the late LeRoy and Olive E. (Waterman) Bluett. She attended Ilion schools. She was united in marriage to John Wilks. Mr. Wilks passed away in 1992. She was a telephone operator for many years at the Chrysler Corp. in Detroit. Eleanor enjoyed playing bingo, especially with her mother, Olive, for many years. She also loved her dogs ?Cookie? and ?Mitzi? which provided her with unconditional love and companionship. Survivors include her brother and sister-in-law, Alvin and Barbara Bluett of Ilion. Her many nieces and nephews including, locally, Lynn Bluett and his wife Denise of Rochester area, Kevin Bluett and his wife Leslie of Ilion, David Bluett and his wife Maureen of Lockport, and Catherine Slowik and her husband Edward of Ilion. She also leaves her helper and personal friend, Linda Crim of Ilion. She was predeceased by her sisters, Frances Sullivan and Gertrude ?Peggy? Kingsley, and one brother, Danford Bluett. Family and friends are invited to Eleanor's funeral service Friday, Nov. 10, commencing at noon at the Applegate & Day Funeral Home, 102 West St., Ilion, with the Rev. Paul Smith, pastor of the Ilion First Baptist Church, officiating. Visitation will be held Friday from 10 a.m. to noon prior to the funeral service at the funeral home. Procession to Oak Hill Cemetery, Herkimer, for interment will follow the service. Those wishing to do so may consider memorial contributions in Eleanor's name to the American Cancer Society or the Herkimer County Humane Society.
